Seen it?

Watched it last night... Comcast On Demand 'Free Movies'. It was from Sundance...

I thought for a 'Live Action' Manga translation it was fucking awesome.

My wife was like, "Oh what the fuck... Blah..." She doesn't get the whole Manga, Anime thing... she hates all that, doesn't get it.

About 30 or so minutes into the film she realized I had stumbled onto something really worth watching... she was silent most of the film... she even admitted it was good.

I knew the minute I saw how it was shot that it was going to be quite a movie. It was beautifully done.

Anyone else seen it?

I didn't even know it existed until last night.

It's in the Free Movies.. either under HD, or not... can't remember for sure. I have both.

But yeah, it's fucking good. I have been guilty of failing to see how a Director could visually reproduce the feel of Manga/Anime, and have the acting be done stylistically in Live Action and have it come out as anything worth seeing. Most of the films I've seen have fallen flat on their face... that I can't remember a single one shows how bad they were.

This one... from just the opening scenes... I was like... "Ohhh... so that's how you do it."

I was really just putting it on as a joke to piss off my wife based on the Description... You know, 'Free Movies' sounding sort of B-movie at best... something that would be awful... and she'd hate it, and I'd laugh at her... then I was like, 'Holy shit, this is fucking good!'

It is probably one of my favorite movies now.

You'll see... if you watch it, you'll see what I'm talking about.

I think it was 139 minutes... of awesome.

Also, it might help that I have a 50" Plasma...

I thought the plot was also just really original and well thought out... it was a good story...

Coming Eventually - "DORORO 2 & 3"

With the current version's success, as everyone expected, two sequences "DORORO 2" and "3" will be produced, both at the same time. Both Satoshi Tsumabuki and Kou Shibasaki will continue to play the leading roles.
Producer Takashi Hirano states, "we targeted at making a Japanese version of 'Load of The Rings', so we were thinking of making it a trilogy." While the current version's budget was 2 billion yen, including filming in New Zealand, this time they prepared 6 billion yen in war chest for both 2 and 3, and are also thinking of filming overseas.
Filming will start sometime next year and release will be sometime after 2009, pending the stars' schedule. The U.S. distributor Universal Pictures (and UP Japan is one of the producing consortium) is considering to release in the US at the same time as Japan, the report says.

So it looks like these films will be coming out soon. I hope... because while not as hugely epic as LOTR, with the battles and all... it's definitely up there in Trilogies worth owning.

Yeah, and the battle sequences, with a higher budget, they could make it as huge as LOTR. It it a smaller scale with two main characters... but the plot allows for epicness if they want to.

I recommend watching it in HD, with good audio, on the biggest screen possible.
