If I wanted to buy a bmw that looked nice with a manual transmission for a good price, what would I want to buy? I don't really care about power. I just want something cheap to drive and maintain (relatively). I'm looking around the 95-99 year models because I want to spend around 2500 after all negotiations. Thanks for any help.

328I is going to be your best bet. Those motors are awesome and you cant beat the cryo-treated internals of the M52. They can be had in your price range with relatively low mileage.

Anything I would want to check for on one of those specifically?

Oil leaks mainly, those can get pricey on a bmw. Make sure the front suspension is nice and tight (ie control arm bushings, they suck to replace). Also make sure the secondary air pump is working. If the mileage is anywhere around 150k and it's been maintained (correctly!) then buy it!

Maybe ill just buy an accord lol. I want something respectable and cheap. The whole point of wanting something cheap is so I dont stress forking out the cash. Even if I did need to save up for a car I wouldnt save just to go broke. Makes no sense then id have a nice car and no money lol.

The 90's model bmw's are not bad about parts at all...... 328i and 528i is your friend I mean look at my m3 320k and running great.....parts are on par with most imports. But definitely look around and find one with maintenance records from a reputable shop. Also hold out for a low owner car... 1-3

I was looking to buy a E46 M3, but didn't want to deal with the headaches..
Wanted something "luxury" with power, but nothing really fit the budget.

Kinda torn on what to get right now.
Don't want to get in another 240sx..

Been thinking SC, GS, or IS.
All seems to fit the bill, and I'm not totally unfamiliar with them.
