i need to get out again. i grew out of my 19" a few years ago and haven't got another since. what size do you recommend for me? or is there a way to measure (im 6'2 220lbs)
    anything a little cheaper ?

i prefer just front shocks on my bike, although i have never ridden with a rear... used to not use any shocks hahah.

There is so much involved in a mountain bike just like with cars. On a bike you have to consider weight, components, brakes, suspension and that is just the beginning. I would recommend going to a demo when they have one at the local trails and getting an idea of what a bike feels like and how it handles.

That Haro is going to be very heavy most likely and that is really something to consider...the heavier the bike the more resistance you are going to have getting it moving.

The other bikes are fine but older and just like everything else technology plays a big part in bike performance, you get what you pay for just like everything in life.

If you are serious about learning go to MTBR.com and read the forums as well as different reviews on brands and models

Will add ya to the list my man!

Also, I don't like soft tail bikes... Yet at least. Suspension in front is all I ask for right now. I feel more connected to the trails.

It is all a preference but these days full suspension is so well designed that it is very efficient on climbs but you can bomb down the trails.

Oh and then there are 29'ers and 650B but that is a whole different can of worms

As the others said, look for mountain bike. The type of riding we do mostly is considered cross country. Usually a front suspension mountain bike is the best suited for this type of riding but full suspension is ok too. Just takes a bit more to climb as the rear shock eats up some of your energy... Not to mention you'll pay a LOT more for a full suspension bike that is as light as a comparable front suspension one.

I really didn't like rear shocks ... I hate when I'm digging up hill and I feel like I lost all my power being transferred into the rear suspension, feels sluggish but other than that, its a smooth ride and sure does feel better on the body.
