You first need to know your size. I'm 5-10 and can ride a 17.5 - 19 inch frame.

you can buy one and ride one.... but it will be harder and the bike will eventually fail. You could probably find one used on CL for the same price you will pay for a wal mart bike. When you ride these trails... you really find the REAL difference between wally world bike and a real mountain bike.

But its possible to ride one... maybe just to start off with. You'll respect the difference of a crappy bike to a decently made one for sure.

Specialized, Kona, Trek, Giant, Cannondale, are the "bigger" names. If you end up getting a Mountain Bike...look at the front fork/suspension set up in general..do your research. Any of these companies frames will hold up(typically). Then you get into components..Shimano, SRAM are the bigger companies for that..more $$ you spend, the more complex/better quality they'll be(typically). Brakes...nowadays Disc Brakes are coming standard, there are Mechanical Discs and there are Hydraulic discs...mechanical ones would be fine for what everyone here is doing I'd assume..the Hydraulic brakes are crazy though..literally will launch you over the handlebars before you know what the fuck happened.

I'd love to go ride but I no longer have a bike...shit sucks. I need a bike rack for my car and a Kona Blast(again.) Fucking loved that bike.

^^You can also try pinkbike.com tones of good deals most are in Cali and Canada but if you get a good deal and have it shipped.

I start with a Walmart bike and moved up to a Rocky Mountain RM7 the diff. in quality and how comfertible I felt on the bike was amazing I regret getting rid of it but I've been keeping my eye out for a good deal and it is a little more motivating know that yall get togeth on the regular. I'll deff. tag along once I get another bike.
