  1. #1 HELP starting Please?
Ok, here's the issue. 91 s13 will not start. Starter does not engage at all. I can push start the car fine.

-Starter is fine, I have taken it out and gotten it checked three times at autozone.

-I have tried a new ignition switch, not the problem apparently.

-I have 12 volts at the Ignition wire right at the starter when I crank the car.

-I replaced the positive terminal cable from battery to starter.

-I can (used to be able to) start my car without the clutch pressed in, which I assume means someone bypassed the clutch interlock relay. Actually theres just nothing plugged in the switch at all.

I am very confused. Even when I attach a jumper cable right from positive terminal to ignition wire at starter, it does nothing but spark.

Please help, or give any advice possible. Thanks a lot!

I don't believe so. I mean, I've had problems starting over a good little period of time now though.

I did pull codes a few weeks ago, which is right around the time that the car stopped starting entirely.

Could my ecu be messed up somehow?

You dont need an ECU to turn the starter over, so rule that out entirely.

If your car used to be an auto you have a few things you should check, like the shift lock switch and the lower harness wiring. All in all though, if you have constant 12v going to the starter via the fat cable, and the starter is grounded via bolts to the motor (and the motor is well grounded obviously...), then giving 12v to the small starter signal terminal on the solenoid should crank the motor over. If you have those two things and jumping the starter signal directly doesnt turn it over, you have a bad starter. It sounds like this is the case, but internet diagnostics are 50% accurate 10% of the time

If it's a real manual car theres a blue relay behind the battery under the fender a lil you should check out.

He says he sees 12v+ at the signal wire when he turns the key, if so its not the relay.

you sir have a wiring problem somewhere...

check your grounds and check the resistance of the circuits to the starter. lemme know what you find. dont exclude engine ground either.
