What helmets does everyone have and why did you choose the one you have? Any advice for the best place to buy one? Any good places on-line?

I had been looking at the wal-mart Bell motorcycle helmets for awhile and then I found a kid on a local board selling the same after using it like twice for half of retail. done and done.

I don't see myself needing a snell for quite awhile.

most local events (DG Trials, drift fury, seda) will let you slide with just about anything (motorcycle, auto, even dirtbike stuff). when i was only doing that stuff, i used my arai RX7-RR4 motorcycle helmet, but those cost a ton and i wouldn't really think it's the most cost effecient thing for parking lot events (you can probably find something decent online or at a bike shop for $150 or less). now that i'm doing higher level events, i grabbed up a G-force SA (auto) approved helmet for like $200 and it's been good so far.

if you've got that helmet on for an extended period of time, you'll start to notice a difference between the nice ones and super cheap ones, but cheap ones are fine too.

Reminds me of a quick story.

When I went to drag strip one time, I pulled up to the line against a Mustang that had a full race helmet, racing gloves, roll cage, and window net. I thought I was dead until I ran by him in 3rd gear. He got so mad he was punching the steering wheel. I continued to smile as he loaded it back on the trailor that was parked next to my 240 (that I drove home.)

Good times.

I guess I'll just get something to hold me over. Any specific suggestions for an inexpensive road racing helmet? I'd rather not buy a motorcycle helmet for a car...

i would go on ebay and look for a used undropped helmet that is certified, apporved for auto racing. scratches..etc if fine. get the helmet. paint it.

higher end helmets, the insides are removable, visors, are interchangebles. remove, wash. used but new to me. :)

for those prices, i get a 500 helmet for like 200 or less.
