So I've never used an engine stand before. The one I have has 4 movable arms, so do I simply bolt it on through bellhousing bolt holes or are there certain spots I have to use in order to support the weight?

i think the bellhousing bolts work..
as seen:

one question.. how are you mounting your engine on the stand?
i have a stand and an engine.. but no hoist.. so im stuck with an engine on the dolly for now :(

that's crazy that the whole thing can be held by 4 bolts and not screw anything up... I've got a hoist, so getting it on won't be a problem. My problem is.. I don't have a garage, so I'm doing everything on gravel which equals very little movement of things on hoists/stands and stuff haha. Oh well...

be a man.. pick that shit up. i picked up my built honda longblock numerous times (with tranny even) and put it up on the stand, hell. i carried my sr20 tranny around today like it was a paperweight..

Ace Hardware. I can't remember the thread pitch, but I got the longest ones they had for 1.88 a piece.

This was after I went to homedepot and lowes.

Try using old head bolts. I use a set from an old Z engine.

hard to go wrong with big thick metal pieces.

honda long block with tranny and manifolds weighs about 450lbs... being able to squat that much helps but my back screams like a little bitch later on

but remember that the honda blocks are aluminum

I'm glad someone asked this. I was wondering myself.

By the way, if anyone's interested, Northern Tools is selling an Engine Hoist/Stand combo for 150 bucks.

It's a 2Ton engine hoist.

yeah, i got a hoist a few years ago at harbor freight for just over a hundred, then this 1000 lbs engine stand was 39.99. harbor freight is the place for cheap tools and stuff. not the nicest by any means, but it gets the job done. i envy you all with driveways and garages.... i hate dragging this crap on gravel!

p.s. lowe's has all the bolts you'd need, along with ace. home depot might too, but i've only had personal experience with ace and lowe's recently.

im guessing aluminum < iron
weight wise.

but you're a big dude.. im a small asian.
lol
^yes, thats it.
i need a hoist but i've nowhere to store it.. even if the damn thing folded up.
my garage is already full of worthless shit from me and my dad.

It will be fine. Most engine stands hold 1000 lbs and a sbf is well under that.

(I use to be a mustang nut, I have probably built more 302s than 240s I have driven.)
