Aight. So I am looking into buying some new shoes for the 240. I was checkin out takumiproject.com and some Advans caught my eye. I kinda know a little about offsets, but I'm still a total idiot when it comes down to putting knowledge to practice. They have 2 sets of wheels that are the same size w/ drastically different offsets. Here's how they're listed:

Set 1:
Advan Oni - 4x114.3
Width - (Front) 17x8 -1 (Rear) 17x9 +38

Set 2:
Advan Oni - 4x114.3
Width - (Front) 17x8 +25 (Rear) 17x9 +38

So does the -1 on set 1 mean that the fronts will have a deeper lip than the rear? I guess they'll be sticking out a ton too huh?

Which one's should I go with? Set 2? They'll probably be more flush right?

sorry for the noobness and thanks in advance.

This might help:

But if anyone can explain please do...

actually on the front of my s13..
18x8 +42 with a 20mm spacer with 215/45/18s sat PERFECTLY flush without a huge drop.
i think 17x8 -1 wont fit too easily under stock fenders if you wanted to run those, but those are good offsets for some thin wheels..

since 18x8 +42, 20mm spacer = +22 sat perfectly flush..
id guess the 17x8 +25 will fit pretty decently, also depending on the size of tires you run anyways..

i'd suggest getting the 17x8 -1 and adjusting camber and possibily rolling and SMIDGE of pulling on the front fenders and you should be able to fit em in there nicely..

i just realized you have a s14... so just keep in midn what i said.. i had a s13

that doesnt make sense, the rears are supposed to have less offset. i would email them and ask them about it, maybe its a mistake.

The first set is a weak fitment.

If these are the one's you are reffering to as the first set it is clear that the 8" pair have a deeper setting, it would look pretty weird:

As for the other ones, that's a much better fitment.

k. thanks for the input. I just found out that these wheels don't clear large calipers, so I may have go with the sport max 006 that I'm so hesitant about getting.

Ok so the higher the offset number, the further in the wheels will sit. Spacers act like a negative offset.

^ Is that correct?

You have to guage the distance of a wheels center, an 8" wheel being 4" on each side (Of course this won't be 100% correct due to differing face widths but we'll just use this concept.) Now...+25mm offset (1"=25.4mm) means that the face of the wheel is roughly 1" away the middle of the rim (positive offset meaning that the face is closer to the outside). -25mm would mean the exact opposite meaning that the face is roughly 1" from the middle of the rim towards the inside.

Hope this helps.

Yep! So deep dish wheels generally have a very low or negative offset and most stock wheels have a higher positive offset.

Maybe this will help a little more for visual learners...

Well, mostly, but you have to take into consideration the width of the wheel.

If a 7" wheel has a -5 offset it's still not going to be something you'd look at and go "wow" yet apply that offset size to a 13.5" wheel and you'd snap your neck at the lip.

Nice explination KidSaru +1. If you go with a 17x9 on a 14 you should look for an offset of +0 or near that. It'll make a nice fit.

Yah makes perfect sense.

yep.. kidsaru nailed it.

if you get wheels and they dont fit over your brakes,
just get some bolt on spacers, nothing wrong with that ;)

spacers work to a point.

usually only takes around 20mm spacers at MOST to clear the zbrakes.
unless you have a wheel that has the hub surface thats completely flat on the face....
