Has anyone heard of these oil filters? I think they are good enough to compare to the better ones like mobil 1. One filter almost cost about 10$...

$10 for a Purolator Pureone filter? Mine cost me b/t $5-$6 (that's for the SR, my V6 Stratus, and the wife's Saturn). Mobil 1 filters are $10. Mobil 1 filters at 99% efficiency, while Pureone filters at 98% efficiency (according to manufacturer). I have found that the Mobil 1 filters for the above mentioned cars/motors are physically smaller than the Pureone is, but supposedly it is bc Mobil 1 packs more into a smaller area. I run Pureone on all my cars. It's a very good filter IMO if a bit restrictive of oil flow. The page I wanted to link isn't currently working, but this one is and seems to be about the same.

I was changing my oil this weekend with mobil 1 synthetic and a mobil 1 filter, which is almost a $40 oil change doing it myself. My roommate's dad, who is an engineer, happened to be at the house fixing our washing machine at the same time. He came out and started asking about what oil and filter I use.

He suggested I just use the walmart brand synthetic oil, which is about $15 for 4 quarts, and a Wix filter. Apparently Wix filters are what Nascar race cars use, and they're a few dollars cheaper than the $10 mobil 1 filter. http://www.wixfilters.com/

He has 2 turbocharged volvos with over 200,000 miles on each, and said this is the oil and filter combo that he has always used and it works great. I'll definitely be going this route for my next oil change. It should cut my cost in half.

Wix is a great filter company. They make Napa's filters (the napa gold IIRC), and many OEM's (Not sure if they make Nissan's). I RON DON KEY thanks for the info! I'll definitely take advantage of that if it's still around.

You can order Wix filters from rockauto.com

This is the filter I'll be getting next time: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalog.php?catalog=39&partnum=51394&a=Search%2Bfor%2BWIX%2B51394

$4.63. I'll probably buy 4 or 5 of them so I can save on shipping.

Ok donkey. I'll let you know how everything turns out. But do some research next time so you don't sound so silly.

Walmart Super Tech full synthetic oil works, and it's cheaper because you don't have to pay for the marketing. That along with Walmart's industry benchmark supply chain management gives you a good quality synthetic oil for much cheaper than the competition.

Also, Walmart just puts their brand name on this oil, and just like all store brand products, the product is produced by another company. Super Tech is produced by companies such as Pennzoil Quaker State, Warren, and Exxon/Mobil depending on what region of the country you are in.

Do you think pennzoil or mobil synthetic oils will fail after a couple hundred miles? Of course not.

Hardly anyone makes their own stuff anymore.
places like wal-mart contract with a supplier who goes out and buys bulk quantity stuff and packages it, or has it packaged with a wal-mart label and then delivers it to Wal- mart to sell.
Bottom line is that you can get some quality stuff if you know where to look and aren't worried about brand names.

any oil/filter combo works as long as you change it at normal intervals ;). i've been using shell rotella forever with whatever brand of filter i can find in both the 240 and my titan and i even run rotella in my KTM. rotella can stand up to pretty extreme abuse and is one of the best conventional (not to mention cheap) oils you can buy.

thats how business works. people go to each other for products and such. sell it for cheaper than other brands, and make more money out of it.
