make sure you got everything plugged in to where they should be, and not somewhere else. does ecu have anything to do with lights?

Might have some lines pinched or crossing? Grounds funky?
My headlight was going in and out for a while but lucky me it was just where they connected was loose. I hate wiring woes.

Just a shot in the dark, I'd say check the grounds.

where are the grounds for the brake lights?
Check the little switch thing behind the pedal, that could have just went bad.

In the back of your trunk theres a little flap you can open to pull the light assembly out, just try tightening the grounds up.
I would say check your switch as well. If it has fallen out or something tho your brake lights would be on all the time. Maybe one of the wires is broken or something on the switch?

i dunno if there is only the one ground in the trunk...but that tightened all the way...i guess ill check the switch

when you pull the housings out of the tail lights (as if you were changing bulbs) you can see there are screws that hold the bulb sockets into the housing. those screws also hold the ground wires to the socket and often come loose, causing the grounds to be bad and sometimes melt the plastic.
but, with what you're saying it sounds like you have some wires shorted. those grounds only cause the brake/tail lights to stop working. if your foglights/turn signals are lighting up you have something shorted causing them to receive power when you're hitting the brake pedal. have you done any toying with wiring at all lately? check wiring around all lights and see if anything is showing copper, if that's clean then start working your way back from each light toward the fusebox checking any areas where the wires could potentially rub anything.

You got some stuff crossed up there. Any recent wiring work? To donkey
To OP: I say fuse first, then check the switch on brake pedal. After that, start chasing wires.
