My friend and I recently installed an sr20det in my S14.5 I have the stock ka24de radiator and the stock fan with flex hoses for the top and bottom. We thought it was the hoses then my friend tyler (Hellfire did my install He charges $1000 if anyone is interested tell him George sent you ) anyways found the bottom of my waterpump leaking so he sealed it with rtv sealer. So it isnt leaking anymore. So I bought a koyo and its on its way. I think it might be that the water pump is bad,

1.How much difference does the clutch fan make with out the shroud?
2.So how do i tell wut the problem is if the water pump is bad?

aight i defaned all of my 3 cars ive owned. and the nissans turn the electric fan on if the car begins to overheat even the slightest. so the clutch fan isnt needed. i roll around without a clutch fan or shroud on my engine and it has yet to overheat. ive also let my car idle for over an hour without the clutch fan. and about ever 5 minutes the electric fan flips on when its idling sitting still.

as for the water pump. ive owned 2 bmws before my 240 and both had water pump issues. just replace the thermostat, if that doesnt do it. and theres nothing clogging up the coolant flow, then its probably a water pump. bmw pumps are 250 dollars so id immagine a nissan pump couldnt be more than 100. lol

thanx ill try that after i try my new koyo where do u get thermostats for an sr

hmm. i have no idea. just pull your thermo and take it to autozone napa and other places to see if they have it.. say it came out of a nissan sr20
and compare the stock ka thermostat to it. it could be the same.
or just test it
i know you can like heat water up to whatever temp and then dip it in to see if it opens. if it opens then its still good if it doesnt then its shot.
just boil some water
drop it in
and see if it opens up

George your an idiot! The thermostat is the one out of the sr20de...91 sentra SE-R. The water pump leaks out of the hole in the bottom to let you know it goes bad! your not supposed to put rtv in it! 1000 bucks is alot... i got a buddy that does them all day long for 600.

also did you change the coolant temp sensor?

Casey

how would that cause his overheating problem?
does the ecu control the water pump? i thought it was strictly thermostat mechanical....

the sr20det coolant temp sensor is different from the us spec coolant temp sensor. there for it does not register on the gauge right. you have to take the coolant temp sensor out of the ka for it to register right.

and whenever doing a swap its highly recomended to replace the headgasket and waterpump... headgasket could be causing it to over heat... its almost impossible to diagnose problems over the internet too.

well chris will u come by and take a look at it its at my moms house in sugar hill ill pay you for ur time todiagnose it and also its idleing really high like 3500 i dont know how to fix that just give me a call chris 770-871-5929 im not busy at all this week?

yea that hole is called a peap hole so when the pump goes bad blocked up coolent comes out. btw where are u located at, if u are close i could take a look at it. as far as the fan shoud, if u have nothing there to direct the air then its taking air from all around in diferent directions and being worthless for cooling.

total volume of air goes to the least restrictive path
so if youre wanting to push 1000cfm through the radiator its not gonna happen. you'll end up gettign around 250- 500 depending on how close the fan is to the radiator
however at idle it is enough to keep the radiator from burning out.
just get some electric fans they are the best
i dont even use my clutch fan

Tyler didnt put rtv in the hole. He just used it to seal the water pump back on.

And we did the swap for $500 plus his stock motor.

a stock motor goes for 400... thats 900. Whats this i hear about you going to a car show to get sponsered?

Well then I guess we have been selling our motors REALLY cheap.

Did George tell you that? I dont know anything about the car show. And my cars not even running yet. So i dont know about that.

*EDIT* I do know about the show but i didnt know there was sponsors. I think he talked to Tyler about it. And were still debating on putting the new SR in my car.

Hmm. Have you tried getting a compression test, maybe the head is warped?

Good luck though, George.

If antifreeze is leaking out of the weep hole then you have a bad water pump. You can stick a garden hose in the radiator, disconnect the top hose, and see the water pump really is bad if you feel so inclined.

I bought 2 12 inch fans off of ebay for around $20 bucks each. They move a ton of air. But, ultimately my best advice to you is to get a koyo. They are well worth the money, and I have forgotten to turn my fans sitting in traffic, and the car never begins to heat up.

Same with me. I have seen alchemy radiators that are suppose to be just as good for around 250 shipped, but I never had a problem out of my first koyo, so I bought another.

I got all my parts from heavythrottle.com
also curtesy nissan has damn good prices www.mynismo.com they're a dealership that carries nismo parts not a performance shop. check them out My buddy got his water pump from them. He is always saying good things about them
