i bought a hoist and the leveler, but i need to get the bolts to put into the side of the motor for the leveler. what is the thread pattern on them? anyone know? let me know asap. i also need to know where the ecu is located? also what is everything total i need to pull for this guy? hes buying the complete swap since im going with a differnt motor. let me know! im going to use ramps, and put the rear up on the ramps so itll be un even so the transmission is easier to get out. thanks for all the help, and any advice is grand. the pull will probably be around 8 am or 11 am. the guy is driving up from west palm beach right now

The ecu is located behind a plastic kick panel on the passenger side. During my swaps, i tie a rope through the intake manifold and head so, I'm no help there.

This "different motor" motor must be a secret. How many miles on you old setup? Sell your tranny?

Leave all the accessories on there. Pull the harness and ecu, give all that to him. Should be it. Also just use the bolt on the front passenger side of the head right below the valve cover, should be a grounding point. Theres another bolt on the back drivers side right below the valve cover for the other chain.

i second trap's advice. i just used those two spots.

don't put the car on ramps in the rear, that makes no sense.

You also don't need e leveler, i have never used one, well i used one once but it just makes you have to mess with one more thing. Not needed.

Just use the bolts on the rear exhaust side of the head for the ground, and the front intake side of the head for the ground. Or wrap a chain through both the intake and exhaust manifolds.

The ECU is in the passenger kick panel on the right side. There are two plugs, a big blue on on the ECU and one that is sorta up in the dash.

One more thing, since this is both of you guys first time doing this. I can almost garuntee that you are not going to get that motor out of your car and in his car in one day.

better make sleeping arrangements, haahah

what all size wrenches do i need? i know 12/14/16 mm. but the engine mount bolts are way bigger than that i believe.

travis, how long do you think it will take me to get it out? all im doing is putting it in his truck after that.

Trap Star
02-03-2008, 12:43 AM
I thought the engine mounts were 14 but if they are bigger its a 17. It can take as little as an hour or much longer. If you have everything disconnected it doesn't take it long to get it out, maybe 10 minutes. Just make sure everything is disconnected or you are gonna break something. My suggestion is to get it all unhooked tonight if you have a light and pull it in the morning. Also don't forget to pull the radiator out or you are gonna bust that.

AFSil80
02-03-2008, 03:11 AM
And if he doesn't have a 5 speed driveshaft, don't let him take yours.

Keep yours for the swap.

haha. that guy is a big guy. he had to have his friends drive my car cause of my seat. sorry tyler and carina for callin yall so late haha, hope i didnt wake yall up! theres not too much pressure going to the clutch/flywheel. i got a bigger leak than i thought. im so stoked on pulling my first motor out haha. they got a room at the hojo. i hope everything is easy going in the morning... they dress alot like tyler... in fancy hollister jackets and spikey hair. loooooool

Trap Star
02-03-2008, 06:53 AM
Ah yes the first motor pull is always a grand one. Then you get bored and you and 2 other guys lift a motor out by hand. That; is not so fun, but very satisfying.

kingyogi
02-03-2008, 06:55 AM
why would i lift it by hand? you must think im crazy. im just young, not crazy :P

anyone that wants to be on call all day tomorrow for all my random questions pm meyour number hahaahaaaaa

SixSquared
02-03-2008, 10:32 AM
Joey if you need me for anything give me a call.. I might be able to stop by if ya need me... 706.296.2991

Also, be sure to pull the shifter out before you pull the trans... it sounds silly, but I forgot to on a KA I pulled and it made the whole process insanely more difficult. It's a pretty easy pull... 4 bolts and the bitch is loose.

Also a good idea to remove intake/exhaust mani before you pull... more wiggle room. :D

Zippy69
02-03-2008, 11:06 AM
You can leave the intake, but pull the exhaust for sure. The down pipe won't clear the steering, and you can rip your power steering lines if you are not careful.
Good luck with your first engine pull, and just take your time and make sure all is clear while you are pulling it out, you'll have to raise it and pull forward a few times to get it out, but it is really no problem.

kingyogi
02-03-2008, 12:33 PM
im keeping the shifter, just because i want to use it on my next motor :P im way too use to shit b&m short shifter to go with anything else.

so im lost on where i attach them engine leveler things to? yal said the exhast mani and intake mani. but then yall say take those off lol. i think im going to drain the motor, radiator, and transmission. ha wish me luck.

these fools wont pick up the gah dang phone! they are STILL sleeping. wtfffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Zippy69
02-03-2008, 12:52 PM
Hook the bolts to the driver side rear of the head and passenger side front. Center your chain, hook up your lift. and yank. Notice that a KA doesn't look level, remember that when you go to put your new one in.

Broke240
02-03-2008, 02:09 PM
You don't have to remove the exhaust or intake mnifolds. That is just going to take more time.

AFSil80
02-03-2008, 03:29 PM
Yeah, definetly want to drain tranny and radiator.

Take out shifter, that's easier if you remove the tranny crossmember first and have a jack under the tranny to keep it from crushing your chest while you're under there.

Don't forget to double check your motor for all plugs and wires before pulling it. Get the lower harness around the alternator unplugged.

Personally, I always pull the harness out seperately and BEFORE the motor, that way you KNOW everything is disconnected. It's a bitch to get it out of the firewall, but it's easier to get the motor out.

HE WILL NOT NEED YOUR LOWER HARNESS. DO NOT GIVE THAT TO HIM. It's connected through your fusebox on the passenger side. This runs to your alternator and tranny. LEAVE THAT WITH THE CAR SINCE IT IS SPECIFIC TO THE MANUAL TRANNY. It's easy to identify since it has your battery terminals in the harness.

I'm just trying to think of anything else. If you got a question and you can't get ahold of Chad, shoot me a text and I'll help as best I can.

Yea dude, we told you it was just the kick panel on the side.

It's held on by 3 screws, and a plug if you have the door lamp.

Either way, good to see it's done.
