JJ Alfano

nhan has SR, and i plan on going SR (dropping the KA-T idea too much work, not enough time)

but a few of our buddies want to go RB to drift with (to save money) and nhan thinks that RBs are poop motors, especially if you are on a budget...but then again..no drift car should be on a budget unless you aren't too serious about attending events regularly haha

its reliable. They can take more abuse then people think. and gas mileage isnt that bad.

i say, rb20 is no more unreliable than any other production engine.. if you want to drive aggressively, prepare to pay the consequences with any setup.

I personally would say "no" because I wouldn't want a "Drift" car running on an engine I have absolutely no experience with..

I drove mine like I stole it everyday for 2 years, never had an issue, no leaks, bad water pumps, headgaskets or anything. The widebody that I had built with the RB20 ran around for a couple of years while only having a couple of issues with coil packs going bad. But any parts you need can be had within a day or 2 now, compared to a couple of years ago. My next Nissan will have a RB25.

I drive mine everyday and love it. 25mpg is better than my truck a 13mpg But if I had a choice I would have gone RB26 or ls1.

RB powa!

as far as drift........
you can rev a stock rb20 to 8,000 rpm no problem, try doing that on a stock sr20 and listen to the gggggrrrrrrrrrrraaaaAAACK!! of your rocker's flopping and valves french kissing pistons w00t!

rb OWNZ!

lol.... for drifting?

argue all you want.

whatever you are thinking off, its already be done 99.9999%
if you are pro and know the differences with your fingertips, your feet, your butt/waist, you can feel of the revs through the steering wheels, and the grip and slip of a competition car....... then maybe i ll consider.

would you listen to john smoltz on how the new ferrari responses or would you listen to michael schumi?

there would be more rb20's on the d1gp, formula D, nopi drift, and the european series' if that makes sense....
thats where the motors reliability and purpose is proven.

ok.thanks.

i knew the tiger racing opinion was coming soon lol.

but for AMATEUR drifting, would the motor be fine? On a PRO level it seems to be poop, but for stock HP short track drifting...would the inline six be reliable enough to just save a grand and put that towards something else?

discuss.

the gas mileage is great if you stay out of boost. I guess that's the good part of having a larger turbo... slow spool time and not getting boost til about 3500 works out for highway cruising

Tell me you're kidding!

Jarco is ridiculous anymore. They want 3 grand for an SR
2700 for a vg30dett that you can get at junkyards here in the STATES!

i refuse to give them business anymore
They used to have good prices but now they just jack all the prices up and dumb asses keep buying

It's a Nissan Skyline motor. It's as reliable as most other Nissan motors. RB20's are getting very old though, so do the normal maintenance when you get it (water/oil pumps, timing belt, HG if needed, thermostat, etc.). Personally, I know that they are cheaper than SR's (The CA is the only motor that's cheaper), but extra weight, more expensive parts (vs an SR or KA), extra crap with installing the motor/wiring, etc., isn't worth it to me. The stock turbo is crappy. Plus, when you upgrade the internals parts are more, bc there are more to buy for a 6 cylinder vs a 4-banger so, I would go ahead and get an RB25 or stick with an SR. I will say though, that one of the mods on NICO had a stock internal RB20 that he made 498whp with.

^^ They are expensive, but I don't mind picking up parts from them from time to time. They are very good people and have good parts, the prices are steep though.

Ya I like the people, ive dealt with them for the last few years

But seriously I remember watching a navan three piece wing for my car a year or so ago on jarco, and it ended at 70 bucks. I lost just barely

Now i see them on jarco starting at 150
Please...They are asking ridiculous prices for used parts. I know its supply and demand but come on, you can only go so far with used busted, and scuffed items

^agreed

Now that I have an SR (don't knock me, I had a SOHC KA) I will just rebuild the motor instead of getting another SR bc prices have gone up so much. I want to go RB25 next (if that ever happens)

20's rock 26's really rock 25 neo is jam up. RB25det series 1 and 2 suck donkey balls on a hot day.

You need a 20 I got one that has a tone of stuff done to it.Whole drive trane is 3 g's.

Let me know. The whole weight thing is true. The s13 needs a little up front. RB takes care of that nizely.

arent rb20 sets like $700-$1000?..
then just add custom DS and MM/TM..
wiring.. do it yourself.
..

I always thought RB20 was the cheaper alternative to SR, like the CA

it is.....

i've walked many a z06 and an orange mercielago on a hot day with an rb25...dunno what kinda rb25 u've been in

i don't see why everyone says "rb's are hard to find parts for"

no offense but 80-90% of the people with swapped 240's get shops to work on their shit anyways. shops and other individuals who've been doing this crap for a while have no problem getting parts for a skyline than ricers have problems getting parts for their hondas. just because it's not advertised or in your face in every import magazine doesn't mean there aren't a shit load of company's producing aftermarket support for them.

in all honesty, you could make a ca18 whoop 95% of people with the "baller" motors asses. i'm glad i tested waters on the rb25's cause they have great potential and a lot of friends of mind are deciding to go with em and that's awesome, they're kick ass motors, as far as consistency, nissan consistently made very good engines, ka vs sr vs rb is all basically "sibling rivalry" just about every nissan motor they've made in the last 30+ years can be made to kick fuckin ass. decide what YOU wanna do, and what you can afford to do, then do it.

for me........if ivan can get 700hp out of a ka, then why can't i?

i will unlock the l33tness in the usdm 2.4 liter power plant and make believers of many... @_@ ..........~@@~
