ok so my motor is shit.. and in the future i wanna go KA-T, and well until i can afford the turbo kit, i would like to not have to ride around on shit. something atleast good, and when its time to T thats all i have to do, so i know i need to rebuild, my compression is shot, and i bet i have more problems that im not feeling or seeing on the exterior. so which parts should i be looking for, i hate it but im kinda on a budget, dont want to be breaking the bank on the NA part of the build, but the budget is not huge, thus why im doing it slowly, and leaving the turbo for last. i want stuff that say over a few months i can slowly put in, say swap the cams, then swap in a cometic headgasket, and well i barely know anything compared to some of you guys, so what should i get? cams, pistons, etc?
breaking down the motor and rebuilding it in a day is not an issue, all else i leave it in my dads shop overnight.

A stock rebuild will do wonders. If you are going turbo, you should at least consider forged pistons, as they are the weakest link. But stock replacement pistons will be fine for a low boost set up.
What are your power goals? If you plan on running 25psi or less, then don't bother with a Cometic head gasket. I would go with a fel-pro perma torque instead. Much cheaper and a lot more forgiving of your head surface. Cometics need a near perfect sealing surface. If I was building a race engine, then I would go cometic but I would have my block and head decked. But for a standard rebuild, fel-pro or other performance gasket. The cams are pretty much limited to BC. They are so damned expensive, I just can't bring myself to buy them.
You can spend as much as you want on an engine build. Decide what you want from it realistically, and build accordingly.
For a low boost ka-t, I would go with a stock rebuild with some forged pistons if I could afford them.
Good luck

Shhhhhhhhh.
Don't say this too loud, but there are a ton of 200k mile ka-t's making 300+hp
I think it is considered bad to like ka-t. That's why I love them.
Hit me up if you need any help.

men I think kat would be awesome and different. I willing to go through what it takes 2 have the power but I don't have the money for a jdm engine so I'm gonna work with what I have. I'd rep ya but I did earlier. Ne thing else?

You can find stock kits for a few hundred bucks. There is actually a place in Atlanta that sells kits on ebay, that are high quality. I'll see if I can find them for you.

thx man, but i talked to my dad, he informed that it would cost too much to even start doing this, cause i would have to take most the parts to a machine shop. and they would charge alot to just get stuff ready to be rebuilt... so looks like for now ill try and find another KA to build up and then swap in.
