advance the timing might make it a little faster at higher rPms maybe i dont have much experience with it so im not sure...im sure you can find something on nico about it or something else
Check your Vtec solenoid.
But seriously, does it run well, or does it just feel like shit?
Check compression, do a new fuel filter, check plugs, wires, timing, all that jazz, routine maintenance, just check everything on the car, could just not have been maintained like your S13 was, you never know.

lighten it,
check compression like wes said
new z32 fuel filter.
manually ground the head,
new spark plugs,
new wires
distributor cap if yours is screwed.
dont mess with the timing.
couple donkeys with an intake,
check for vacume leaks
2.5" exhaust DP back.
test pipe
stuff like that outta get you up n running.

lol...weight reduction is for people who dont know what real power is. ;) :toung:
Anyways, the best way to gain back a few extra hp:
Take off AC belt (no need for it in winter)
Disable the PS (you'd have to build a pulley with the sohc assembly, b/c you can't run the water pump and crank on one belt)
s13 cams (more aggressive)
Remove the mechanical fan and wire up an electric one
Intake
Freer-flowing exhaust
Grounding kit (already mentioned, but I'm just reinforcing the point)
Remove un-neccessary vacuum lines (KA's as with other Jap motors are vacuum happy; but 90% of it actually not needed. Good write-ups on Nico)
If it's a 5spd, get a light weight flyweel and performance clutch
Lightweight pulleys
Etc...that will free up a lot more power.

good stuff
light pullys are expensive tho... worst bang for your buck. imo.
hey how would i go about removing the powersteering pump... i need the water pump...
do i just stretch a smaller belt and run no tensioner.
like squeeeeeeze it over the pump?

i was about to do that at my first drive event, but we fixed it, and for once i had power steering while drifitng haha, i kinda wish i kept it without cause i was 4 months practice without it.

You don't want to run a smaller belt over the water pump and crank, b/c it puts too much pressure on the water pump shaft, and you'll be replacing WPs left and right... so for a DOHC, there's some way (Bruce has done it) to get a SOHC p/s pump, and you use the pulley and the bracket to basically build a 'dummy pulley' so that you don't put stress on the WP. :goodjob:

lighten it
people are under the impression that s14s are so heavy
i think they weigh like 60 lbs more....not enough to anything
just get s13 dohc ka cams to put in your s14 motor...it should feel the same
also make sure its tuned right

The S14 weighs around 30-40lbs more than the S13. sooooo weight reduction is not something you should worry about. Do the routine stuff that has been stated before and then see if that helps at all.
Cam swaps are nice :)

Totally untrue and biased statement
especially with prices for todays sr's and rb's you can deff. build a reliable ka-t

Who said anything about SR's and RB's?
:P You guys are gonna shit yourselves when I decide to put up pics of my car... aka when she's done lol.

Put a 13b turbo in your s14 and call it a day.

Well what i was getting at was bang for buck right now it seems a ka would be better...of course if you know what you are doing
with prices of the sr today you could build your ka-t with the same amount of money. plus at 240 dynoday there were a few sr's that didnt even break 200 hp
but im not going to get into this again because i always end up getting flamed because I bring up cost:horsepower
:screwy:
S13 2699 lb
S14 2762 lb
You arent going to notice a difference

The weight is not that much different. The biggest difference is the cams. Swap in a set of s13 cams and you will notice a big difference. There is a write up on NICO on a 248/248 cam swap that gave some good results.

You can always space out the other accesories to matching depths and run a serpentine belt. Alot less work.
As far as power goes, these motors like nitrous. They will take a healthy 100 all day.
