recently installed the rb and I have two questions. i'm having problems with a fluctuating idle. I've adjusted the aac valve to help somewhat but idle speed is too high. my other problem is a cold start condition where I need starting fluid for the car to start.

What do you mean it idles too high what rpm my rb idles at 1200-1400 and idk abou the starting fluid did you replace plugs and check injectors with a volt meter to make sure they are getting good power when you first start and check fuel pump also are you running stock fuel pump too ?

fluctuating idle prolly has something to do w/ an open bov.
maf isnt reading air that the bov should blow back into the intake

Does your blow off valve leak at idle

should idle like a normal car..
not 1200 and up.

I've established insufficient fuel pressure to be my cold start issue.I know my bov is leaking at part (5 percent) throttle... I've got some parts on order to hopefully take care of this.fwiw, the engine should idle between 6-700 rpm.

for the cold start,
-take your dash harness(The tiny one that plugs in behind the glove box), pull the orange wire to the side, and connect it to pin 43 on the RB20DET harness going into the ECU. Here's the diagram to show you pin43, and everything else.

Crimp is fine, as long as you have a set of good crimpers, but everyone who doesn't have a nice set, but a cheap 5 dollar set, says you shouldn't crimp, because their crimps suck, but solder is the only way. So solder, or crimp, it's up to you, solder is better and more permenant, but a good crimp will work.

If you ever get a chance, pull apart a old harness, and look at what the factory does, they take one wire, and crimp 6 into it. So a good crimp will do.
