View Full Version : I <3 Aluminum tranny mount
Yah, its awesome... The car is about 3x louder on the inside and vibrates a good bit more but it feels so great. Shifts are so much smoother and solid and the whole drivetrain feels great. HUGE difference... Don't know if i'd recommend it for a daily driver tho...

Heh, yah, I love it for sure but its not for everyone... Some people complain about slightly stiff springs... but they should never mod their car anywho :P. They expect to get great handling and a great ride at the same time...

did you make your mount or buy it?

Bought it... I don't have the equipment to make stuff yet... This piece would have been really easy to make tho and the sell for around $60...

what all is involved in installing solid motor and tranny mounts? do you have to lift the entire motor with a cherry picker or what?

For the tranny mount all you have to do is jack up the tranny, pull the orig. mount out, replace the ruber part with the aluminum part and re-install. For the engine mounts I'm assuming you can just get a piece of wood on the jack, jack the motor up on the oil pan(carefully) or front of the tranny, and replace the mounts one at a time.
The tranny mount took about 15 minuts...

Either way would work, either lift the motor out, or jack it up from below, your doing the same thing. Then just undo the nut that holds the mount to the brace, a viola.
Flip, where did you get your mount?

I got my tranny mount and motor mounts here:
http://mmr-direct.com/
They actually sent me the wrong parts at first but I simply emailed them and they fixed it pretty quickly...

Im getting their subframe bushings.
Im getting their subframe bushings.
They accidentally sent me some mounts for an rx7 that are essentiall the same as our subframe bushings. They looked pretty stiff. They would be a great choice if you dont want to go with aluminum bushings... They are the only other choice I've found aside from poly inserts and if your bushings aren't in good shape to begin with you really shouldn't use the inserts...

I expect them to ride nearly as solid as aluminum. I am going with these because of price not because I think they will be more tolerable than the aluminums. At this point I dont see anyones 240 having good stock bushings, they're just too old.

yeah thats what we did when we pulled my oil pan to have a bung welded on. just wondering if that would be ... erm a "safe" way to go about lifiting the motor completely out of the mounting points.

Not for the motor mounts...

I purchased a peak performance "race" mount off of ebay. It's not solid, but it is close. I love it, and it's not much more noisier (if that is a word.)
Oh, and from my experience, I would never buy solid engine mounts.
i got jgs motor mounts on my daily.... vibration doesnt bother me though
I installed my new motor mounts yesterday ( not solid but really hard ). Little bit more vibration but it feels SOOO good... The drivetrain feels like one piece now :).
