rod and main bearing sizes

ok noob question: why would someone go to a larger sized rod/main bearing? how would they go about doing it?

More clearance means more possible oil flow. I went larger clearance on my high hp rb26 build. I did this because 1. the rb's are prone to spinning a bearing, 2. The more power you make the more heat you create and pressure you put on the bearings which also increases your chance of spinning a bearing. 3. To utilize my high pressure high volume pump, and high hp combo, larger clearance allows more oil to flow through faster and easier..more oil flow means better cooling and protection. There is a good saying with bearing clearances " Too loose, you know it. Too tight, everyone knows it" You go about doing it buy buying bearings with larger clearance lol. But first you should get your journals measured to see if they are out of round any and then after machined, figure out what is the right bearing to use. If the journals are machined a good bit than standard size bearings might suffice.
