I know, I know, it's not a 240...but I thought maybe someone on here would have a friend in the market or something. :)

I bought this car with every intention of fixing it and putting it back on the road, but I have lost the time and patience for it. It would be a great project with someone with the resources, as it really doesn't need much more work.

Year: 1993
Make: Toyota
Model: Supra
Body: Hardtop
Drivetrain: 3.0L naturally aspirated inline-6 automatic trans RWD (2jzge)
Mileage: 170949
Location: Acworth, Georgia (about 20-25 minutes north of Atlanta)
Title Status: Salvage
VIN: Available on request

The car would not start when I bought it, but I have since got it running. It has a brand new mass air flow sensor, NGK plugs, NGK wires, cap, rotor, air filter (conical), and fuel filter. The transmission shifts great. It does have an exhaust leak. It has 17" Enkei RS Evolution wheels with decent tires on it.

When I first picked her up:

And a video of it driving.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=NCVc-qgqYWw

The car will come with the following:
Headlights (93-96 style)
Brand-new bumper cover
Brand-new bumper support
Brand-new upper and lower radiator supports
Brand-new radiator (bungee tied in place for the time being; was done so the car could be started)
Brand-new condenser
All the a/c lines needed to hook it up
Windshield washer bottle
Whatever other misc. Supra parts I have laying around

Basically everything that is needed to put the car back together and on the road. I would love to keep and fix the car, but again, I have lost the patience. I want someone to get it and give it the home and attention it deserves.

This car would need to be repaired and inspected before it can be issued a 'rebuilt title', and then it can be registered. Laws vary state to state, so check your local DMV for more accurate information. From what I have heard, Georgia is more difficult than most other states to re-title a car in. So anyone elsewhere should have no problem getting the car titled and registered.

This would also be a great candidate for a track/drag car, since it would not need an inspection or title for that. All you would need to do is bolt the bumper back up.

Asking $7000 OBO. Will also consider trades for another 93-98 Supra (shell, blown motor, needs work, etc...or plus cash on my end). I do not want any trades on any other types of cars, nor will I accept payments (sorry, I am not a dealership).

To anyone who is local, feel free to call me and come take a look at it!

That crunched frame rail (see pic). Then it would need inspected. I have never gone through the rebuilding a title process, so I can only tell you what I've heard. Contact the state for better/more accurate info. ;)

Thanks Kevin!

Good luck with the sale, Brit.
Ya know, I just thought of something.
You might be able to file the car as abandoned, and then get the court papers, and you could end up with a clear GA title since its an out of state car. Or bond it, and get a clear title.

suprabrit
12-19-2007, 01:22 AM
Wes, I thought of that, but I think the salvage history will always be attached to the vin no matter what. I could call the DMV though and ask them to do a vin search.

Exactly, the history may be attached, but the title you will have will be a clear title.:bump: I've seen alot of cars for sale with clear GA titles, but, with salvage history in the past. I almost bought a CRX from a friend like that, he had the clear title, but the Carfax showed Salvage history. But then again, it was a $300 CRX, haha.

It could work, and it might not, regardless, it could be the best $100 you ever spent to bond the title.

suprabrit
12-19-2007, 01:27 AM
How do you bond a title? Will all that get you out of an inspection?

Wes
12-19-2007, 01:30 AM
It should. Flip posted up the whole how to of it.
I mean, it could come back salvage, but, it could come back with a clear GA title, since it is an out of state car.

Usually, when you get one bonded, the police just run the VIN on the car to make sure it isn't stolen. I've yet to personally bond one, but I know you have to have the same t-22b form that you have when you have an abandoned car.

Or you could get someone you know with a shop to say it was left there for over a year, and get a mechanical lein on it. And get a title through the abandoned process

There's one section where it asks if the car was ever reported as a 'total loss' or damaged beyond repair, and you can check yes or no...if they found out it was in fact a salvage, would I get in trouble for fraud?!?

^^I think you might want to talk to this guy...

I was actually going to ask you why you don't sell this and make your vert really badass.

I can't believe it would cost $10000 to convert this to 6 speed... I'm pretty sure the jdm motorsets aren't that expensive, and I'm sure the other parts can be found relatively cheap.

Well, supposedly the whole rearend is different, ecu..... Thats what Mike at Batlground was telling me

you can swap ecus, and the rear end can be swapped easy
I did a kaaz 2 way and supra ring gear in my Lexus, same chasis as the supra in the first gen GS. It should hold plenty of power. The trans swap might prove tougher as the wiring harness might be diff in some areas. The best way to "swap" is to get an aristo front clip, granted if you can find one with the 5 speed it's gonna cost you, but the auto ecu has been used with manual trans swaps in the GS/Aristo, both turbo ecu and non-turbo ecu with both US spec/J-spec ecu's. I have an endless pit of knowledge about the JZS-147/JZA80 chassis, and what parts can be swapped easily and not so easily. I have a link around somewhere that has all sorts of fun things from the supra you can put on other Toyota's with no prob.

Bump for brit and her supra if it was cheaper i would buy it i just sold my s14

Eric-RPS13-
12-19-2007, 04:45 AM
how come people with 1J soarer's put the getrag in like it's going out of style?
The R154 has held up to mid 400s (330wkw) in stock form, getrag 900+ (this is from what I've seen and helping someone replace a r154 in their SC twice and read about what it handles)
ya the R154 is not stronger then the getrag, it's a stout trans, I'll give you that, but that getrag is nearly indestructible. The only downside is cost on the 6 speed.

either way I would go with the R154 and do the no. 1 thrust washer mod, it'd hold more power then not that way. You machine an identical groove opposite the other for the oil to flow past.

I just heard from a few people that are in to Supra's that the 1J tranny is stronger that the Getrag. You seem to know a lot about Supra's/SC300's and I don't. So I'll take you word for it.

Mr. Kidd

The 6 speed getrag is stronger than an R154. Whoever thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

The R154 is strong, mine held 705whp before the motor went in my 240. An their are countless R154 swapped 2J 240s running around on 500whp daily with no problems. IS300 guys use them on 500-800whp builds.

But to say they are BETTER than the 6 speed just isnt true.

A 6 speed swap is $$$$$$ to do it right because this is what i figure:
USED 6 speed $3500-4500
6 Speed CLutch $1000 (HP freaks, CC, ACT)
FLywheel- $500
TO do it right youll want the TT Rear End and Axles ($1500)
6 speed ECU- $200-500
Driveshaft-$300-500
6 speed clutch pedal (good luck)
Slave cylinder
Mastr Cylinder
Lines

The LSD in the rear is not the problem, its the gearing. Most NA supras have VERY Short gearing to make it more fun to drive and not like a 3800lb tank. You start adding power to that short of gearing an you run into problems.

IIRC Tanks NA AUTO supra made 450whp and hit redline on his TH350 at 119mph. When crusing on the highway he was at like 4500rpms.
if you did all the work yourself you might be able to skate by at $8000.

for a shop to do it, way over $10,000 with parts

IMO, NOT WORTH IT. This is why 6 speed TT supras go for $30,000-35,000

suprabrit
12-19-2007, 07:24 PM
$10000 + $8000 = $18000. Still cheaper than a stock TT 6spd...well, then add whatever you spend for a GTE motor, you still will most likely be still under the price of a stock TT 6spd, and only have to pay insurance for an n/a auto. ;)

Greg
12-19-2007, 09:07 PM
^ plus the cost to fix it, and then you still have a salvage title... So whenever you sell it later down the road, you'll lose all that money.
Not hating on your car or anything, just explaining why I'm not interested :)

It is a decent price for it though

suprabrit
12-19-2007, 09:12 PM
True. Well, I'm taking reasonable offers, so don't be afraid to shoot me a fair price. It would be a good project for someone with time and connections at a shop (or who can fix things themselves).

good luck with the sale.
from personal experince, you may be able to get the title to look clear for the next buyer but if they pull a carfax it will show salvage. as for getting the car road worthy you just need to fix whatever main issue( the frame rail) then get it inspected for around 200 or so I believe or even have the inspector come to you as some of them do house calls so to speak. the interior looks to be in great shape so you can always stress that. again good luck.

SixSquared

ok Brit.... I just found $0.87 in my couch... when can I come pick it up?

Kidding... good luck on the sale! And those tards on youtube who say it needs a mechanic are... well... tards!

And for your info, as far as getting it registered goes, I bought a truck with a kentucky rebuilt title and had to get it registered in GA. The bodywork has to be done, and then you take it to a state inspection shop (there's one just north of Athens, not sure about other locations) and pay them about $200 to inspect it. The inspection is SUPER easy... when they inspected my truck they put it up on a lift and looked at it, checked the lights, and were done. Took all of 10 minutes. Then they dropped it off the lift and got to pay for bodywork to fix it. >_< But anyways.. you get the car inspected and if/when it passes, they give you a certificate of inspection which allows you to go to the tag office and get a new GA Rebuilt title and tag. The title is stamped as rebuilt, which is basically saying that the car was totalled at one point, but has been repaired to roadworthiness. You're lucky that the airbags didn't blow on her. :) Honestly, I would talk to the state about that frame rail.. you might be able to go ahead and get it inspected and titled even with it messed up. Aesthetically it won't be the most pleasing, but if the bumper's on I don't see why they would be stubborn about it, unless your actual bumper support is missing. Then you might have problems.

Hammerhead-i Eaglethrust
12-21-2007, 12:16 PM
I thought only licensed dealers and rebuilders could take a car in for inspection in GA?

SixSquared

I didn't have a problem when I brought my truck in. That was back in like 2004, but there were both dealers and private people there.

How do you bond a title? Will all that get you out of an inspection?

Title bonding will not get you out of inspection. You will be able to get a title by having a police officer check the information on the car, VIN's and signs of theft, but that will only get you at title, when you want a tag it will still be the same deal.

title bonding is easy, as long as you go to the right place to get everthing done.
