how well was it running before?
i mean honestly i wouldnt just for the fact of youre not digging into the bottom end yet. when you build the bottom end. drop the cash and get machine work done

tear down block to get resurfaced.
i thought you work at top hat or top speed.
top speed competes in time attacks..i have respect for that.

get it resurfaced, if that head gasket isnt sitting right then you just wasted $80 and whatever else decides to go with it.

If you are going through all the trouble, might as well get the block surfaced. But honestly, its not necessary.
And yeah, don't you work for Tophat? Why are you asking us?

get the block surfasede and the head as well. pick up an coswoth, apexi, power enterprise, hks, hg. scrap the cometic as it sux. and unless the surface isnt perfect it wont seal properly.
the cosworth is a great hg. it is new with better seals. a ton of rand d has gone into it. cosworh dosnt thro shit on the market.. make sure u get a 1.1mm because u will be taking some surface area of the head and block. it can/will affect ur compression.
i will try and watch the thread to keep u posted with my findings.

Amen on that. The cometic is a good gasket that will hold up under pressure, but it needs a perfect surface to seal. A felpro perma-torque is a little more forgiving and will hold just as well under 30psi.
I don't know when it happened, but somebody who was somebody said cometic was the shit and the only head gasket you should use, so everybody who had a 240 had to start putting in cometic gaskets. Fucking lemmings.

i used to work at tophat.. and is a second opinion such a bad idea?
i mean im 19... i can only know so much. lol
scott (from tophat.. well used to work there) told tell me i didnt need to b/c it was running like a bat outa hell when i pulled it.
mike (from tophat) said i needed to.
and as you see.. i still have ppl saying yes and no.
i got a cometic for a steal.. thats why i went with them.

they are hit and miss honestly. if the surfaces are preped right and u follow the directions to a t it might work but some have done it and still had bad results. why. only god can tell. look on fresh alloy there is a huge write up about it.
i have a cometic im no gong to lie. but if it dosnt seal which im 90 percent sure it wont. im geting an apexi or the new cosworth.
id be extremely happy if it works and i will not bash the product just to many people have had issue 4 me 2 feel lucky/safe.
a few extra dollars 4 peice of mind goes a long way in my book.
sort of a life lesson i learned building cars.

Why risk not doing it JT. It will not hurt to do it but it will if you don't and it needed it.
Stop by sometime.

if nothing is wrong with the head and he gets it milled he wont have material on the head to take off when it needs to be done and will have to get another head...
right?

Dont waste your time and effort. cometics are horrible about showing you the imperfections of the deck and head surface. I have had to carry many a head back because of incomplete jobs.

right?
If the head is good, barely any material will be needed to make it perfectly flat again. So there will be metal left over for next time.

cometic + copper spray + properly milled block and head.
you'll be fine.
everyone thinks cometics suck because lots of people had bad luck with them because they didnt resurface correctly.
go cometic.
dont look back :)

^^ I would have to agree. I have put cometics on nearly every headgasket I have done save a couple. Worked fine.
