tranny GONE

ok.... yay my tranny went yesterday! i pulled it already, but i cant seem to get the housing off... my first time doing this so stay with me....

the tranny splits apart in the middle... correct? i took out all the bolts but CAN NOT get it to split.
a chunk of gear came out when i drained the fluid.....
what can i do??!?!! and im like, broke.

So did you get it appart? Usually theres a snap ring on the top of one of the shafts holding the housing on...

Does anyone know if the internals of the ka and sr trannys are exactly the same? I know you can swap out the internals and use the sr case to put the ka parts in but just wana know if stocks are the same...

you can use the 1st and and 2nd gear synchors and baulk rings from the ka24 on the sr20... the ka uses smaller 3rd and 4th syncrhos so you cant use them...

The 1st, 2nd ,3rd, and 4th synchros are very close to being identical, the only difference is that the 3rd and 4th shifting fork indent is slightly wider than the 1st and 2nd's. The baulk rings are also the same.

This means that the SR20det 3rd and 4th synchro and baulk rings can be replaced with the usdm ka24de 1st and 2nd synchro and baulk rings.

The 1st and 2nd synchro is $88.63 usd, and the baulk rings are $30.69 each, you will need 2.... now thats full retail. my price should probably be half that.

lol yeh to many ppl's trannys going out on this site! im bout to leave gwinn tech, just got dun registerin for my auto classes. chea.
now to tophat!!! from what they told me they are identical except the bellhousing..... so ill just be swapping the bellhousing.
got a nice surprise btw, i got some kind of aftermarket clutch. lol didnt look to hard at it though, its yellow if that helps at all. lol

i dont know what gear is what. lol UMMMM no one told me i have to bore out the holes in the bellhousing for the bearings. i put everything back together and yay, stuck in a gear b/c i didnt know to bore it out.
tomorrow i get to pull the whole thing out again!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

How much do you have to bore out? Oh and take pics and make a DIY :).

you are going to need to do it in a cnc to get it right... an out of round bore will kill bearings

i got it all out and apart again.....
while sittin on the bench i can now get it to go in 1st n 2nd....
but not any thing else...
WHY!

ok, went to tophat... got a tranny, put it in. ended up being bad. pulled it back out, went back up there got an s14 tranny, swapped the housings. put it in.. all is good.

last night on my way home (after having the car back one freaking day) my left front tire blew and sent me over the curb into someones yard. messing up my left front susp. and putting a hole in my oil pan.... and messin up my fender!

and im completely broke... like 100%

what! that sucks man.. but wat sucks even worse is i got to go to court on the 13th for my tickets i got 10 months ago on my motorycle!

its not gonna be good at all!! hopefully i can get a hardship license at least, but idk until i go, wish me luck everybody!
