Brake problems?

Started hearing a loud noise coming from the back of my car at low speeds the other day, only does it occasionally... not sure how to describe it but it sounds like the brake pads are too tight on the driver side wheel? (Best way to describe it would be how a big rig sounds coming to a sudden stop)

Lifted the car up on a jack today and noticed 3 things...

1. The driver side rear wheel is much harder to turn than the passenger side.

2. Only the driver side wheel locks up when the e-brake is pulled.

3. When I spin either wheel, the other remains stationary... I remember before that when I did this the other wheel would spin in the opposite direction since I don't have an lsd.

So what's up?

Oh also my brakes are extremeeelllyyy squeeeekkkyyy, how can I stop that?

sounds like caliper seized?

try to take it out and turn down the pistons. see if they'll move at all.


the whole diff problem tho, gotta get someone else's input. I havent touched those yet. lol

check the sliders on the caliper.

Yup most likely the pins are siezed.

as far as your diff, if you have an open diff only one tire is gonna spin if the calipers are locked up/too tight. If one side is bad, check both just to make sure they're applying equal pressure.

Okay ill check out the caliper today, how about the e-brake only locking driver side? Is that related?

It may or may not be. Depending on how much you use your e brake to lock up your tires for sliding or whatever the cable could be stretched or your rear brakes just aren't wearing evenly due to a possible seized caliper

Well I just recently did a 5 speed swap, and have never used the e-brake for sliding it (yet).

And if the caliper is seized what's the best thing to do?

If the calipers are seized you're gonna need to replace them if trying to grease the slides don't do anything for ya.

Just noticed something, the noise seems to stop shortly after disengaging the clutch, so as much as I don't want to think about it... could it be the transmission that I just had put in? But what would make that noise? It drives just find aside from that, it shifts smoothly and everything... throwout bearing maybe?

But still there is definitely something wrong with the e-brake and driver side wheel as well.
