Who really knows what those cheap ass, wide ass 17's 18's and 19's are really doing to the performance of your car? Most of which weigh 1.5 x's as much as the factory wheels, if not more.

Holy crap! I didn't know they were that heavy. What sizes are they? And yeah, more unsprung weight isn't a good thing.
I saved 5lbs per wheel when I changed

Ok so basicly anybody that is willing to spend good money on a set of wheels will get a performance gain, or not lose any. Just trying to point out Why that set of volks, bbs, Hre, etc... is 500+ a wheel w/out tires!
Does anybody really realize what that unsprung weight is doing for your... braking, acceleration and actual power put to the ground?

no, enlighten me please
its less rotational mass to stop/accelerate

no, enlighten me please
he jsut did in the last part of that post
u accelerat quicker, stop quicker, & put more power down where it matters
every pound of unsprung weight equals about 12lbs of sprung weight...... so if you save 10lbs per wheel thats about 480lbs of sprung...... think on that one guys
for you drag guys that is about .5 sec off your 1/4.... 100lbs = 1/10 sec

ROFL!!!! not all volk, hre wheels are light...... just because it is expensive does not always mean you get what you pay for.
light wheel > heavy wheel. doesnt matter which brand generally speaking.

how the hell can you save 10lbs per wheel again?
that is craaaazy.
you can go forged, but it will still weigh similar or more than stock, if you upsize..
which is the main reason for new wheels.
upsizing.

What?!? You don't have carbon fiber wheels yet? looooooser :gay:

unsprung mass can also include control arms and other movable suspension pieces... but that affects suspension characteristics more...

it also highly matters where the mass is located on the rotational axis
hence heavier axels will not affect sprung mass nearly as much as a really heavy wheel due to the diameter of the axel compared to the wheel.
more mass further out from the axis = more centrifical force = more "unsprung mass"
in short?
lightweight flywheel lightweight driveshaft lightweight wheels
leave your axels alone jackasses
and dont buy HEAVY sportmax wheels lolzer
but also its much easier to slip traction on a lightweight drivetrain than it is on a heavy drivetrain.
great for you drifters not so great for you draggers

the 100 lbs : 1/10 second ratio is generally endorsed by most draggers...
but is not accurate by any means

unsprung..
basically anything below the spring.. thats how i see it anyways.
i dont think many people can warrant aftermarket lca and such.
maybe a few.. a real few on here.
less rotating mass = good.
yey.

e30 M3 aluminum LCAs 8lbs
e30 325i steel 35lbs..
although the alumi is more pone to fatigue cracking (say after 100,000 street miles) it is a hell of a difference...

Your also forgetting that brake rotors add to the spinning unsprung weight which is white 2 piece rotors own.
But the Bullitt Stang Wheels and 235/45R17 tires on them weigh as much as my old stockers did.
