Ok i have been thinking about this for a while and was woundering what the pros/cons were of a top mount manifold vs. a bottom mount. It would seem that a bottom mount would flow faster seeing how it does not have to fight gravity. Is a top mount only for times when the turbo is too big for a bottom mount????? I am too lazy to search and it might be a stupid question but i just wanna know.

top mount equals custom hot side piping and dp extension

TopMounts has show great results recently thanks to companies like full-race doing the R&D
long runners have shown FASTER spool times with bigger turbos. longer runners give the air more velocity over short runners.
we did a topmount on Nyteryders that was kind of a mid runner, not quite the big swooping topmounts you see on hondas, it was basically a reverse ramhorn that made awesome power
if your looking for a manifold you cant go wrong with Mainstreams, Peakboost, FullRace, Lovefab
Anyone have any pics of 240's with top mounts? I'd like to see it..

well, top mount allows for mounting of a bigger turbo. a few guys have gone bottom mount but it requires cutting/trimming the motor mount to make anything sizeable fit.
top mount allows for longer runners which equals more velocity, smoother flow and greater mid/top end power

Top Mount
1. T3 flange
2. Bling bling
3. External Wastegate
4. Usually Life-time Warranty
5. More Space
6. Easier to work on
Bottom Mount
1. Easy installation
2. Keeps Heat down away from BMC
3. Stealthy
4. Cost
5. Can handle 400whp
6. Less Weight

and most bottom mounts are t2 based which is total bullshit IMO

850 for a 16g manifold(top mount) dumptube and downpipe) at least the last quoted price i remember

the pics i took were with a $100 camera, the manifold looked much nicer than that LOL
This is a manifold we made for a customer of ours. Stainless Steel , tubular design, TopMount. Sr20 with STOCK BOTTOM END. T3/T4 Turbo, cams, springs, ret, 780ccinj.
Here it is, apolagize for the crappy pics:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/Vteckidd/pics081.jpg
Here is his PUMP gas Log manifold vs our manifold, same boost 19psi
Red is our manifold, blue is his old manifold.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/Vteckidd/240sx1.jpg
thats a 50whp GAIN !
Race gas vs PUMP gas with TDF manifold
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/Vteckidd/NyteryderPumpvsRAce.jpg
You can tell his turbo is maxed out. It flatlines on race gas cause the turbo just cant carry that much boost. We opted to stop at 440whp on a stock bottom end to keep it safe.
This is 10psi OLD manifold vs 10psi TDF manifold
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/Vteckidd/240sx.jpg
As you can see he pretty much gained 50whp no matter what. he lost a little bit of bottom end power but gained a bunch of power an TQ up top. We did not touch timing at all, just a/f ratios.
NO NITROUS WAS USED , ALL TURBO

you guys should check out ka-t.org more often.....
bottom mount ka-t manifold =
(quoting ams)
"Flow through the manifold will be in the same direction as the scroll of the turbo.
Lower center of gravity than top mount manifolds which is a big plus for all of the drifter/road racing/ auto-x cars that wish to go turbo. "

Dyno chart above is with AMS GT32 .63 A/R housing, built motor, and Stage 3 cams.
http://turbo240.com/images/Cblack101521.jpg
Dyno chart above is with AMS GT32 .48 A/R housing, built motor, stock s14 cams and the boost levels are 10, 15, and 21 dropping to 19-20 lbs.
More testing and further dyno charts will be posted within the next week. These are just a few of the runs that I did while tuning my car. The big dip in the 20lb line is the AEM pulling timing because the tune is not yet finished.
Full boost for the second dyno chart comes in at the following RPMS in 3rd gear on the dyno:
10psi: 2950
15psi: 3250
20psi: 3450
If you have asked another question, please be patient, I am updating all the forums as quickly as possible, while continuing to dyno tune cars here.
Ok, here is a good one!

lol you could be like that maxima owner that put the turbo where the passenger seat would be with a heat shield or some shit like that.

NNNOOOOOOOOooooooooooo......there is no "if it cracks", it will. The piping is way thin thin for turbos. I think they use OBX headers and "modify" them for turbo use. Just plan on using it for a jig.

Well I finally put my Megan manifold on this weekend, not hard gained tons of power (because I had an exhaust leak before the turbo = no boost) did come across a couple things I wasn’t expecting though. Once the manifold is on you need to relocate the catch can, you might get away with shaving off the bracket (on the side facing the manifold), but I had a Greddy lying around from an old project. Also got the elbow that comes off the back side of the turbo from them, but the O2 sensor hole is for the fatty, my redtop has the skinny O2. Not a big deal, simple $12 adaptor and you’re done but could be a pain in the ass if you’re not expecting it. Wife dropped and broke our camera so as soon as I buy a new one I’ll post pics.

oh and find my key or else all of this is pointless
