okay so i could care less about audio/radio bullshit in my s13 considering its my race car. but my girlfriend is daily driving a s14 and she bought a head unit which i installed. i connected everything the right way using all the right connectors. i followed the wiring diagram step by step. i check all my work twice.

well i hooked it up and everything works except for some reason the sound will go from all four speakers playing just fine too just the fronts playing and the rears making a shitty static noise. i know its not the intenna because it does when playing cd's and also when the ipod is hooked up using a aux cord.

i checked all the wiring tonight and re-did it just to see if somewhere i messed up along the way, double checked it before i hooked it all up. everything is exactly how the diagram says it needs to be. i hooked the head unit back up and im still having the same problem.

im just asking for yalls imput.

thanks alot.

Darrin.

Sounds like a short internally

It could be internally or check on the door speakers themselves. Sometimes when some ppl try to do audio they're really lazy and don't do the wires good and sometimes just wraps the wires around the connections and if it comes loose or touches something else it will mess with the sound.

sounds like either a bad ground or a defective head unit

no it sounds like it could be a few things.

first let me ask this, Does the sound happen at random, or can you reproduce it time and time again,

second, does it do it ONLY at high volumes?

so lets say said radio has a volume of 40, and at 10 everything works, but at 25 it does the issue your having?

what it could be is a bad wire, if you are using factory speaker leads, it could be a bad factory wire, and as your turning up the volume so more current is going thru the wire, it finally starts to ground out.

IF, thats the case, then its typically only going to happen as you get to higher volume lvls.

now... something else.

Check to see if switching the pos and neg on one of the back speakers around helps. It could be that one of the speakers were built wrong and they were wired backwards, and the speaker is out of phase. *(kinda like with 2 subs playing, if you switch one sub the other way around, it becomes out of phase, and the sound is aweful, and VERY low in power.)

also, exactly how many speakers are there in the car? if your running 4 speakers, you should be ok, but I know sometimes there are 2 speakers in the rear deck, and 2 in the rear 1/4 panels.

if you have a total of 6 speakers, your wiring will end up being the front two speakers being a 4 ohm load per side, and the rear being a 2 ohm load. and could cause this issue as well.

so.... please feel free to update with any info, or pm me if you'd like. or call me at 404 387 0604, if there is anything I can do to help just lmk! thats what I'm here for!

I had a problem like that too, I didn't bother checking the speakers and what not, but mine were still OE speakers. The OE head unit was putting out a smaller amount of power and the new head unit was putting out more. Once the new head unit was in and all the wiring went through the OE amps that are mounted in the back, the sound was terrible at higher volumes but okay at lower volumes. I ended up just buying new front and rear speakers and it fixed the issue for me.
