View Full Version : Bracket / Slider problem.

I have thought for some time that my rear caliper was sticky... and I've discussed this with some on here... then I started to think that I needed to change the bracket or sliders...
That point was sort of driven home this morning.
I absolutely CANNOT turn or move the sliders. They won't budge.
So if you're with me on the sliders being the problem, and not the caliper... then bracket swap right?
Not so simple...
One of the 17mm bracket bolts heads busted off a couple years ago...
So... here's what I have... seized sliders... and a bracket I can't remove without professional help.
So being a semi-smart guy, I'm thinking, find a way to get the sliders out and swap in new ones...
There's my problem...
HOW CAN I GET THE SLIDERS OUT?
They're crazy seized.
Methods... ideas, tools... solutions.
That's what I need.
Discuss!

Lubrication and motivation...
Beat it.
I have a set of rear calipers for dirt cheap if you want em.
I should probably have a better look as to what kind of condition they are in but just assume you will need new seals.

Yeah, I've already swapped out the calipers a couple times... that's why I've moved on to that not being the problem. Thanks though...Mine probably need new seals too, but the sliders not sliding is a problem. If I move on to calipers again, I'm going to just get a new set. I've wasted enough on swapping out old ones.
So, PB blaster/WD40... something heavy and forceful... but the goddamned sliders don't have much of a surface to grip...
I'm wondering if there's something I could put on the end of a slide hammer that could grab onto it if I put the bolt in...

Ugh... I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. Ball joints are a bitch. I've thought I might have to go there, but I'm looking to avoid that.

bolt extraction tools can be had fairly cheap, if not gimmie a call monday and ill see what kinda $$ were looking at for my tech to do it, cash talks kinda thing.
better to fix that and the sliders than half fix it IMO.
oh, and seafoam make a very good penetrating lube called deep creap, soak it in that shit for a few housw and they should come out with a good set of pliars.

Yeah, the bolt extraction would be good... IDK what a 17mm bolt would take though. That's a monster bolt, that it even broke in the first place kills me.

dude screw all that bullshit and get you another nuckle and then get you a z32 brake setup,,,,no more sticking and massive brake power..
my stuck bracket slider caused my caliper to sieze up and it peeled yeah peeled my disc off of its hub,,,shit wouldve got seriuos if i wouldve been doing like 85 down 75 ya know.
besides those things are known for locking up anyhow,
do it right and dont cut corners cause that could be a really big safety issue for you man, good luck.

When in doubt, drill it out.

When in doubt, drill it out.
Yeah... there's always that.
I don't have anything "capable" of that sort of drilling though.
This is probably going to have to go to the experts... I just need it done, and I don't need too much of a fight on my hands.
And when I drove back home last night, shit was smoking... burning the inside pad... really bad!
Then it started pouring... so my rotor probably warped... :)

delete your brakes you don't need to stop! :p
I may end up being cheaper to find another front knuckle at a junk yard that getting it extracted FYI.

Well it's rear... so... I could go out and get J30 rears... the whole upright would swap in...
Except if I run into a ball joint... Ugh... I don't know how to remove those without damaging them, and certainly don't know how to put them back on. So... that's a problem for me.
Might as well just take it to a professional.
