Replace Pilot Bearing. Should have came with your clutch.

Also, make sure you use the clutch alignment tool that came with it as well.

And.. Tranny Temp Guage? Don't get that. Waste of money. Hell, I didn't even know they made those.. LoL..

what the proper way to get the tranny back into the s14? I've always had to use a big fuckin hammer to make the firewall fit >.<

Ahahah!

Ok, if you are replacing it on the ground, with car up on jackstands. Have the whole car jacked up, equally.

Then use a jack with a piece of wood on it to jack the motor up from the oil pan. Do this until you notice the car start to lift a little. That should tilt the motor far enough back so you won't have any issues with the firewall.

Use lots of extensions, btw. a few 6 inch/foot long extensions makes the job 10x easier, along with a decent wobble socket thing. And also, the pilot bearing puller tool from advance is complete shit, it took me like, 30 minutes to get it to pull the damned thing out. But, I've ran cars with no pilot bearing, and I've had some I never replaced, but, if you really want to do it well go ahead and replace it, just be sure you tap it in strait. I used a block of wood and a rubber mallet.

Also, make sure you have some good grease, and lightly grease the throw out bearing and input shaft, and I do mean lightly, so that it doesn't sling all over the clutch, but enough where its smooooth.

It seriously shouldn't take you more than a few hours, a 240sx is honestly one of the easier cars to throw a clutch in, next to a Sentra or an Eclipse.

^said it.
lots and lots of extensions.
go out and buy 1/2" 12" extensions.
i used two of those and a 6" extension.

dont forget to get wobble and pivoting socket adapters too.
just chestpress the tranny out and back in.

it should be straight forward.
also, dont forget to adjust your clutch pedal for play/slack before you start the car.
i forgot to do that once and burnt the shit out of my clutch. lol.

95% of the time you only need a temp gauge for you tranny if it's auto and you drag/road race it. If your manual is a road race car and it will be on the track for hours on end, then you might consider it.

^5-speed swap FTW

Casey, just quit your job so we can go ahead and get the damned swap done. Besides, I want to see how fast I can get a motor out this time.

you'll need to go to autzone and rent their slide hammer...it'll get old pilot bushing out in no time and it's easy... but you have to give then $100 to borrow it but they give it all back to you when you return it...

also remove the shifter first... i forgot to take it out and the tranny got in a bind and had to push it back up in there and take out the shifter.

also PUT THE CLUTCH IN FLYWHEEL SIDE TO THE FLYWHEEL!!!

the guy that was helping me put it in backwards and we had to completely repull the entire tranny again to flip it around.

good luck though... you're gonna need it

oh yeah i almost forgot

realigning the splines ont the tranny and the crank is a bitch and it's the hardest and longest damn part of the whole ordeal... so basically when you feel it pop into the clutch don't let that mother fucker come out of it and put a few blts into the housing and pull it on it evenly... but make sure you have it in the good before you pull it in all the way so you don't fuck shit up....

but yeah putting it in and lining it up is the biggest bitch in the world

lol
when i had mine out, i got it out easily..
putting it back in, i just kicked the bellhousing on the motor.
it slid in perfectly fine :)

i forgot to take the shifter out too.. when i was swapping motors, sucked big time, i had to un-do everything.
sucked horribly.
