horn wont work w/ circuit sports quick release

i have a nardi wheel, sparco hub and a circuit sports quick release. the horn worked with just the wheel/ hub (one wire install, easy deal) but when i added the quick release it wants a positive and negative wire i tried grounding the - wire inbetween the hub and the qw but that didnt work. Any ideas?

you need a good ground that is nearest the steering shaft as possible.

i know its fucking user error ROFL, but the ground shouldnt be needed since it works with the one wire as is.
