I have a Older Rockford Fosgate 12" Punch Z Sub with a 400 watt max, 150 Watt RMS and has 8 ohms. If I were to run this by itself, what type of amp would I need?

Here i put some details as per your need you can try this
-158.3 dB. on the Term-Lab in the kick tuned to 35 Hz.
-2002 Ford Excursion 6.8L V-10
(4) 18" Kicker Solo X's (walled off, 2007 model)
(4) Kicker ZX2500.1's
(1) Kicker ZX850.4
(11) Group 31 deep cycle batteries
(3) 205 amp alternators
^ haha wtf
you can pretty much get the cheapest amp you can find to power that size/spec speaker
I've got a 1000 wat amp for sale for cheap ($80) that would power that sub wonderfully. Just don't turn the amp up all the way :). Let me know if you're interested.

Dude, anything from fry's that you have heard the name brand before... You could go asking for a mono-block amp AKA D-class.... they are sub only amps and are very efficient
I'll let the 1000 wat amp go for $50...
i will let flips amp go for a few crack rocks if you can get over here before he gets back in town on thursday :)
