View Full Version : red neck quick fixer upper coors light style exhaust patch longest thread title ever
I had a little problem with a hole in my resonator. It has been making my exhaust sound sub par. I was getting tired of the rattling, but didn't really wanna buy a new exhaust so I decided to have a go at fixing it myself. I don't know how to weld so I turned to JB weld and coors light cans. I really wanted to use budweiser cans but coors light is still selling 36 packs and if anyone has taken an econ. class, you understand buying in bulk is more economical.
ok, so here's some pictures of what I got accomplished tonight. I took 4 beer cans, cut off the tops and bottoms, made rectangle aluminum sheets, ironed them to flatten them out, and jb welded them together. then i took my exhaust off and used jb weld and thermosteel to patch up the hole. I'll post pictures in the morning when everything has cured to show how it turns out. ...i know, this is awesome.

1. no welding, just jb weld and thermosteel.
2. the black car is my roommates VW gti.
3. it's a carport, but thanks. and the jb welding was done in the basement.
oh, and my car is really loud without the exhaust.
i'm about to go check out how it turned out so i'll post more pics in a little while.

And.. If it DOESN'T work.. I have a welder. Pick up some steel and drop by. ;)
Tyler
haha thanks tyler. i think if this doesn't work i want to weld 2 straight pipes in to take the place of the resonator.

my dad patched an exhaust leak with some thick aluminum on a subaru he used to have. Instead of jb weld, he used self tappin screws. The heat burned through the aluminum, so i doubt that beer cans will do any better. I hope it works though. good luck.

yeah =D
it will burn through the aluminum eventually
no worries though =D

hey hey hey, where'd you get those kick ass pipes???
ok, just got the exhaust back on. started up my car and it sounds amazing. no rattling or buzzing. i was afraid the cans weren't going to be solid enough and they would vibrate but they aren't making any funny noises.
i'll post pics as soon as i get done cleaning up.
now we shall see if this is actually great success. i'll keep you guys posted as to how long this beer can patch lasts.

good job!
sticky!
patch flew off tonight at 110mph.. oh well. at least i had fun with this little project. so much for being civil. time for some straight pipes!

10-16-2007, 02:01 AM
lol. i want to hear what it sounds like straight piped.
well, it won't be truly straight piped. I'll still have my mufflers. I'll just be deleting the resonator. The cat has already been deleted. Gotta love living in a county with no emissions.
a guy on zilvia had the same problem with his a'pexi n1 duals and he cut out the resonator and welded in two straight pipes. he said it sounded really mean.

Told ya so... ; )
On my old hatch the exhaust rusted completely off right before the resonator. that thing sounded mean! i say cut the pipe!
haha yea, it sounded pretty mean with just the down pipe. i love the way the turbo sounded coming out the dp. i don't think i'd make too many friends with the neighbors like that though.
