Im trying to make one of those custom fabrications, like in need for speed and stuff. I have 2 10"Kicker L5's and 2 12" Kicker comps and I want to fabricate a box type thing that will go around my hatch area. Does anyone know how to build such a box? Or have any tips that could help me out? Id really appreciate it. I just really want to put all of these together, I know both are different sizes and shaped. I was really hoping to have the l5's in the middle and having the comps coming off on both sides. Any hints or tips are appreciated.

I have two boxes. Im talkin about the fiberglass ones that look all contour-ish. haha.
Ya know? Im talking about this kind of stuff.

But I dont want it like a bright color. Maybe like a gray or black to match the interior.

try this out... (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=build+fiberglass+subwoofer+enclosure)

:) no, but really. pretty simple once you get the basics down for using fiberglass mat. You just build your frame... lay down your materials... resin... yadda yadda..... box! and the color is up to you... last one i made i had coated in rhino liner. haha. looked good though.

*edit- just re-read your first post... basically you want to use all of the boxes you currently have and still have the custom enclosure look? you can mount the boxes together and then instead of making a fiberglass enclosure like i thought, just make a fiberglass surround. it will just be a piece that essentially lays on top of your current boxes. Not the ideal way to do it, but it is doable.

I thought you were looking to do something like this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJYojtBdMlg

What your going to end up with is basically a big piece of fiberglass trim. To get results like what you pictured in the 350z, that's going to be a different route.

Nah Im going to pull out the subs. Ill probably just sell those off.
Im trying to make all the subs in one piece. You had it right

I have a friend that can build this he did circuit city installs for years before they closed. But this kind of custom work will cost a pretty chunk.

fiberglass box fab can be very costly. if yoiu want to do something yourself you can always have a look at this for the basics.

and this

other then that, I believe there are few guys including myself that have experience in composite fab that might help or if you just want to get things done by someone else.

good luck

How much would it cost for your friend to do it? Or how much if he helped me and I bought all the supplies? Would he do that?
Let me know. Thanks.

i know how to do all that stuff. certified and all. it just cost a whole lotta money and takes a whole lotta time to do it right. custom boxes like that are in the thousands but depending on how good you are wit your hands and woodwork you can do it for like maybe 100-200$ worth of supplies, if that, and time. just make a project out of it. and as for speaker placement, it only matters if your gonna be doing DB competitions and stuff like that. it will sound good no matter what possition they are in.

the odds are against you in a fiber glass box unless you got a lot of time and like to spend money

I've done fiberglass before, its generally a pain in the ass and much more expensive than working with mdf.

mixing subs like that, especially ones that different is going to cause a lot of distortion... not to mention the power handling difference is ridiculous. your either going to underpower the l5s or blow your comps.

its not that hard you make a frame you stretch you fabric over put a layer of shit on it then another layer...then you use bondo to smooth it and do the final shape then sand it and paint it..there a reason fiberglass guys make so much damn money tho....cuz it sucks.....hard...i would do mdf with carpet over it

i guess someone already said that tho

So I should wait until I can get the money for 2 more L5's?

dude 2 l5 are going to pound in a s13. I have one and its gets really loud. I had a MTX 15 in there first and it was killing me.

2 l5's are all you will need. you will not win anyone else over with more than that

dude two l5s will be plenty make sure you run your amp choice across me... and youll probably need another battery in the back to keep your headlights from dimming. If anyone says capacitors work, theyre dead wrong. I have a lot of audio experience and can lead you in the right direction as far as equipment goes, seeing as youll be doing your own install i cant help there.

an additional small sealed battery should do the trick. honestly since its a hatch, you could probably do much more then you think with just one of those l5s and a properly ported enclosure.

as you can with some of my previous stuff and what seems to be trap stars nearly finished install is you can do pretty good with just mdf without having to go for broke in a FG box if you are looking for sheer loudness

As of now, I have two L5's in the ported kicker box and a 750 watt kicker amp.

rtrhead
03-29-2010, 06:06 AM
that should be more then you need volume wise. as long as you can keep the power supply(alt) stable enough you should be god with the proper install. however im not sure tht box fits in a hatch. do you know?

the l5s are what i am running right now with the. kicker box they are only 10s so the box fits what would you suggest for a high power alternator?

you dont need a h/o alternator for 750RMS. a small battery should be JUST fine. the alt you have now puts out 80 amps. that amp wont pull more than that. ive actually owned one. you need a fully upgrade electrical system to put out 14.4v which is what theyre rated at and your cars just not gunna do it. but i would recommend running a 1000rms amplifier. that should put you out about 900rms with your electrical system and do your l5s good, putting them to their full potential. theyre a bit underrated power wise.

you are correct just answering the question.

upgrade your big three and your battery and you should be just fine

caps dont work and you wont cause distortion to the subs unless you use the same amp for all four subs. and fiberglass work does suck.. just go easy and make it with carpet.
