How many of you have upgraded to z32 brakes? Do you feel that they supply sufficient braking for you modified 240 (boosted)? Is it as simple as getting the calipers, disk, brake lines and brake adjuster kit (to keep the rear brakes from locking up). Although most of the braking in a car is done by the front brakes would there be any great benefit in having larger rear brakes also? If so would it be possible to use the front brakes in the rear of the car? And no I did not go looking on any other sites yet to see if this has been done (lazy, asking around here first). Oh yeah would 350 brakes fit?

i had 255 40 17's on 17x9's with 26mm z32's up front and just regular parts store brake pads. on my s14.

i could lock them no problem at 80+mph

for daily. its a useless upgrade. for the track it makes the world of difference. if i were to build a track car. id do z32 rears with a stoptech ebrake to delete the junk drum cable ebrake. and probably brembo's from a track Z, STI, or EVO. up front.

and dont forget the 17/16" (1 & 1/16") z32 master cylinder.

http://www.240atlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=418 read this thread. May not be all the info youre looking for, but you'll start to understand things and maybe figure them out yourself. And yes the 350z brakes will work, but you have to drill bigger holes in the spindle or helicoil the calipers.

OK I'm not so sure I understand about drilling the bigger holes but let me know if I have this right. If I were to go with the 350z brakes I would be drilling bigger holes so that the brake calipers can be mounted?

I could just get some slotted rotors and good pads but I would like to put the car on the track every once in a while. So I think that the z32 brakes would be a smart upgrade (slotted rotors and good pads). I had a '93 Maxima at one time (eibach springs, tokico shock/struts, suspension tech swaybar, stillen strut tower bar with stillen cross drilled rotors and brake pads) made for a fun car. I went rwd after that.

I did read that thread good info. I was just wondering what everyone else was doing. lol Tokyo Drift is on.

yeah the 350z brembos use a bigger bolt to attach them to the spindle, so you need to drill it so that the bigger bolt can go through. If you plan on dd'ing this car though I dont think the 350z setup is very practical. The pads wear out faster and the rotors can be cut MAYBE once before being discarded. It looks baller as fuck though.

You DO NOT want 350z or G35 Brembo brakes. It only will cost you 600 dollars to change the pads and rotors.

^ true. Forgot to mention that as well.

You should hear how pist customers are when we tell them that.

Anyways, I wish I could comment on my Z brakes. I run them with a stock 240sx BMC though, So its like a big sponge.

Yeah I believe you... I used to work at a Nissan dealer in Houston, and then at Nalley Nissan in Decatur and I remember those shit fits, haha!

So I should go with the z32 brakes, rotor, pads, master cylinder and steel braided brake lines. Or I should stick with the stock calipers, upgraded slotted rotors and add the steel braided brake lines.

Most Z32 kits come with braided lines to go all the way around (be careful not to strip the ends because they are aluminum).

The rear brakes only really account for 20% of the stopping on a 240, so upgrading only the fronts is really all that is necessary. In addition, if you upgrade the rears to Z brakes, as stated before, you would need to redo the e-brake also because the stock cable won't work with Z rears.

Upgrading would require, Z front calipers, rotors, pads and brake master cylinder (optional). The BMC isn't required, but using the 240 BMC will make the brakes feel "squishy" (as already stated). If you're only gonna daily/ occasional track the car say once a month... just use the stock rotor and get good pads. Now if you're gonna track it weekly, maybe get better rotors in addition.

I use Z brakes on my daily, only because I like the look of the 4 piston caliper compared to the stock 240 one and it helps with the dicks that cut you off on the interstate.

Also a little tidbit of info, if you can call Mike @ Tophat (yes, he has reopened Tophat, new location), he has fabricated a mount for the Z calipers to shift them forward a bit to fit a 13" or 14" rotor instead of the stock 12" Z rotor.

P.S. - Be sure your wheels will be able to clear that size of rotor if you decide to do so. Stock SE 240 wheels will clear stock Z32 setup... but not a larger rotor than that.

IMO, stick with stock calipers and rotors(unless you want some flash) and get a good set of pads and definitely some stainless steel lines. Speed bleeders are also a good cheap upgrade if you plan to track your car.

If you go the larger caliper route(either Q45 or 300Z) plan to spend a good deal of money to fine tune your brakes(larger BMC,etc).

I just upgraded to the Z32 fronts yesterday!! I F'in love it!! I went with the 17/16 BMC and Projectnissan.com SS lines. Now I just have to find some bigger wheels, because these brakes make my S13 SE's look even worse!! LOL
