mk...
how do they justify thier prices?
isnt there some kind of profit law that says you can only price things 200% profit...
well idk
but radioshack pays 37 cents for a pack of thier own batteries and sells them for 3.99

and they charge 100 dollars for sandisk 4 gig sd card. when its significantly cheaper elsewhere....
thats just the start
the "quality" of thier radioshack brand cables. suck.
they are terrible
i have people return them very often.

i mean cmon...
i work there... and they pay me to work.
but im like biting my tounge when a coustomer comes in and buys something UBER overpriced... gah it pisses me off
4.99 for all watch batteries... wtf its tiny... ><

and they charge 4.99 for a 1 foot male to male 1/8 stereo audio wire...
then walmart sells the exact same 75 watt power inverter.
radioshacks price? 29.99
walmarts price i believe was 16.99 ... im not POSITIVE though.
i know its uber cheaper.

rah

OKAY i just found proof ><
RAHH! !OMFG

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812117701
100foot ethernet cable (i own 2 of these fyi ... amazing cables) - 9.49 + 4.99 shipping. = 14.48 *i think* i did it in my head...

radioshack price???
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103323&cp=2032061.2032360.2032369&parentPage=family
69.99

granted. they do have a store... so theres alot of up front cost.
but dude
id expect maybe maybe MAYBE 25 or 30 dollars in a retail store for that wire.
i would probably pay 25 or 30 bucks for that wire in a store for the convinence. not 69.99

PRICE GOUGING!
ill gladly pay 3 bucks for gas if radioshack will lower thier prices to a reasonable price.
i mean seriously
we had 2 coustomers walk out the door cuz they didnt wanna pay 4.99 for a tiny battery.
he needed 2 for 1 toy for his child or something.
he was like wow... and i told him to check dollar tree if he wanted toy batterys lol... [/rant]

They've been running out of a lot of things lately. I can't even find a 12v flashing led there now. They used to be the place to get all that random stuff you can't find. Now they're turning into a best buy...

as a business owner. they have every right too. its not over priced. its market price and people payfor it.

theyhave expenses to pay and overhead. they dont make it all in profit. once over head as a variable is added into the final cost of product, you will see the profit number significantly reduced and you can see for yourself they need a higher profit margin. they work the number until there is a break even point, adjusted profit and target profit, then the rest is disposable profit for the next quater/season, whichever accounting method they use.
they have to hit at least both the targets before they can have an ease of mind for the third.

its not that simple. radio shack has build its brand name and someone has to pay for it, the clean carpet, yor uniforms, your glass cleaners, yor posters, yor shelves, your lighting, and misc that break or have to be replaced over time. once you put all that in you will see that market value is volatile and has to maintain for a consisntency in business.

then there are issues they have to deal with, supply and demand for each products that they have to maintain a database to monitor over stocking and understocking. those costs money too.

then they have to use their variable to see if they can efficiently maximize their economies of scale. and lastly, they have to figure out a way to redce their fixed cost to maintain a stable purchasing power such as the 37 cents you see, for every 1 cent reduction. instead of raising prices, they find a way to reduce product costs as much as possible.

ok good nite. stop your bitching and work hard. you myfriend is the single most highest variable in their expense costs. maybe they should reduce your pay so that they can have a higher profit margin.

hehe.

Caveat emptor viperbite. Thats how retail works, when I worked @ best buy my biggest peave was the USB cables, because the margin was @ 70%+. But then again the computers don't have high profit and niether do TV/Speaker systems and such.
So it pans out, in the end retail companies are simply doing their job to supply a demand. You will pay $35 for a 6ft gold usb cable if you need it, don't wanna make/order it, or have really no other means to obtain it.
The consumer also has an option whether or not they want to pay that price for an item or search alternatives (ebay, newegg, w/e)
I agree with you viperbite, but thats the retail business.

In November 1999, two women were killed by a lightning bolt outside radio shack. The underwire located in their bras acted as a electrical conductors, and when the lightning bolt hit the bra they left burn marks on their chest.

another reason why women shouldnt wear bras when it rains with lightning.

thats so hawt.

may be they would rather sell 1 item really expensive to a dummy than to stock 100 items and sell them for very lil profit.

id say its a good strategy...
