Alright, so I got bored last night, decided I wanted to polish my valve cover. So I went into town and got a few things.
Die grinder from lowes (36.99)
Paint stripper (1 can will do)
2" sanding discs from Advanced Auto (13.99)
and various sizes of sandpaper (180-1000 grit)
Alright. I started out by spraying the paint stripper on the valve cover and letting it sit for about 5 minutes. Dont get this stuff on you, it burns like hell. Then I took some brake cleaner and sprayed all the loose paint off. Yes, brake cleaner. It sortof neutralizes the acidity of the stripper. I tried using the air compressor blower, but stuff got all over me. This gets it away. Then I repeated until I got most of the paint off.

Next, I put on the little scotch brite pad that came from Advanced Auto and started to clean stuff up. First, I got the rest of the paint up. Then i put the setting on the grinder to high and moved across the cover slowly, so it didnt leave marks. Dont forget to get in between all of the fins and such.

When it comes to getting inside and in between letters, the little scratcher tool that dentists use to get the crap off of your teeth works great. I just couldnt find mine and settled for this. If you put a little bit of sandpaper on it, it works great. Get all that junk off.

Then last, take the sandpaper and sand everything down. Moving up in grit every time you go. Sand until you are satisfied.

This was my final product. Im going to try something else to get it shinier. Ill update if i figure something out.

Edit: it took me about 3 or 4 hours. not hard. just time consuming.
