I know any one of these will work, but all have shoes for the ebrake.

What if you don't use that ebrake setup?

How do you park your car?

Use the tranny as a kickstand?

Anyone had to deal with this?

bracket for the ebrake, or use stock rear brakes with good brake pads

z32 if obviously best. but its not necessary. you can use a hrdyo ebrake system or cable.
stock with slotted or drilled rotors with ebc or hawk pads work awesome.

Well I sold my Z32 rears, and I don't have Z32 hubs for those to work anyway.

I have an idea...

I think that stock S14 brakes will bolt to a J30 upright... which would retain my ebrake, but I'd also be stuck with stock rotors.

Thing is, I would like to run J30 rotors/brakes as an upgrade.

So, what's this about a bracket for the ebrake? How does that work?

Mainly I want the upgraded size, but I want to go "shoe-less".

Anyone ever figured that out in a safe way?

you can go shoeless. its fine on the rotors as its designed for the correct caliper and hub offset.

but if youve upgraded the fronts hawk pads and good rotors will be just fine

I mean for parking though.

The e-brake/parking brake keeps you from rolling down a hill into traffic.

So, what do you do if you've got upgraded rear calipers, and no shoes?

The only caliper that I know of that can get this done without shoes is the S14.

are you saying you have the brakes on your car already? Cuz im saying dont waster your money upgrading the rears just get hawk pads n some good rotors

No I don't have them on yet. I'm getting some parts this weekend though.

And I suppose I don't even need a rear upgrade as much as I need a parking brake.

I'd just like to use them if I could... but I don't think you can use S14 rears with a J30 rotor... so it's probably impossible to upgrade and retain a parking brake without using the shoe system.

I'm putting Q's on the front though... then I guess I'll need to dial in the BMC rod so the pedal doesn't mush to the floor.

i had q45 fronts on and just upgraded stock rotors on the back and no problems stopped great and didnt have to mess with the bmc rod.

Well I hope I don't have to, but I heard that's what you do if they're mush.

Never kickstand a transmission, it is not a motorcycle or a bicycle. That is a very very bad idea. Shoes on an e-brake are actually much better then pads but pads are better for performance braking. This is why a lot of performance setups, like the 300zxTT, use pads to brake and shoes on the inside of the rotor for an e-brake. More cars would use this setup but it is more expensive for the manufacture. Nissan is one of those companies that give you more for less, or at least use to. I would go with the Z32 setup (much better choice), use the e-brake like it was meant to be, and go with other drilled or slotted rotors; not both. Performance is relatively the same for drilled as with slotted but is reduced with drilled/slotted.

^ From what I've read, neither drilled, nor slotted is really all that necessary with the new materials used in brake pads... it's mostly for show now.

I may go ahead and use Z32, but I sold my calipers... so I'll have to get some more... I don't know if I'll go for that though.

But yeah, I know you're not supposed to kick stand a tranny... I was curious if that's what some people are doing though.

I wonder how many people who drive AT even think about what they're doing to their trans when they don't use the parking brake.

Most of the AT drivers I've ever met used park like a kickstand.

Sounded great when trying to put it back into drive on a hill.

*KA-CHUNK*

"Dammit, it's a transmission, not a kickstand!"

Of course, they were women. (Sorry women, it's true.)

its a lot worse on an automatic then a manual
