View Full Version : Looking for the best Dyno Tuning in GA

The Problem: My car is HORRIBLY tuned from Tophat, it runs insanely rich at idle and low RPM- and towards the top of the powerband it starts to run lean. I am in need of a major tuning. I'd like to find the best dyno tuning in GA if possible. I saw Topspeed's website, and they seem to be a very good contender. I'm looking for a place that really knows the greddy E-manage ultimate, and RB motors.

Rundown on the car if that matters:

RB20
GT32 (GT3255E) turbo
440cc injectors
walbro 255lph fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
TiAL 38mm external wastegate (with 11.6PSI spring)
Manual boost controller (not hooked up at the moment, might do it later)
Apex'i N1 3" exhaust
3" catco cat
dual pass FMIC
Greddy E-manage ultimate (running MAP system rather than MAFS now)
boost and injector sensors hooked up with the e-manage etc.

If anyone knows a tuner who works well with that type of setup let me know, on here or in a PM. Thanks

-Blake

I hear that turbo dave at Mainstream does the best job around here on our cars

I don't want him stealing my iPod.

lol jk, I've heard too many bad things about turbodave and mainstream to let them anywhere near my cars.

haha. well other than that i don't know. The guys up at Lethal Injection are pretty familiar with rb's. But I'm not to sure about there dyno tuning abilities

Thanks for the advice man, I'll probably end up going to Topspeed, they've worked on a few guys cars I've known, and made some huge numbers. I'm probably actually going to end up doing a new cometic headgasket in a few days anyway- so the tuning may wait.

have you tried BatlGround or Lethal Injection?

To clarify, Turbo Dave isn't the same guy that stole the iPod. It was a Mainstream customer who got a 2J swap and his name happened to be Dave. Turbo Dave is a badass and a great tuner.

I would head to Batlground though. Good luck.

I'm trying to find the absolute best, if Batlground is the best I'll go there. I just want someplace I can trust for once.

I've heard really good things about balanced.

I have a wideband, and a greddy e-manage ultimate, and all the necessary gauges... I asked for the BEST for a reason.

Sure I could tune it, but it's already been tuned... if I were to try and tune it, it would basically be a detune. I want the best tune possible.

cash- thanks for the site I'll check into them

cool. they're in sugar hill. they have lots of experience with nissans and tuning race cars.

Brandon (s14unimog) tuned his car there when he had a ka-t setup. He basically had all stock sr parts: t25, 370cc injectors, 3 inch exhaust, fmic, safc. Balanced tuned it to 210rwhp and 221rwtq @7psi

that's real nice. my new cometic headgasket is on the way, and I've still got to order my headstuds- I'm not sure what boost I want to run. I have an 11.6psi spring(for my tial wastegate) and a 4psi spring, and a manual boost controller- so I have no idea what combination of those I want to run.

define "BEST"

you want the best tune.. for what? for doing what with the car?

i would hope that you already know that the best tune for drag is not the best tune for drift etc.

No.. There is a best tune. A tune that has a solid A/F ratio across the board, and makes good power.

Why wouldn't you want that in both drift and drag?

As tyler said... there IS a best tune. That is what my goal is, I want to find the best tuner in GA or the southeast to tune my car- not because my car is insanely awesome or something, I just want it tuned correctly.

Plus, even though it doesn't really matter- I autocross obviously, I don't drift, I don't drag much, and I'll be taking the car on roebling road and little talladega, etc. but those are after the roll cage.

Autocross and drift would use a similar tune. Drag may be slightly different if different at all... All of that is more in the build tho.

i dont understand about the best tune?

its application based and have alot of variables.

you cannot determine the best tune with just A/F ratios. more or less will result in more or less power, at different throttle %, different time of the day.

barometric, temperature, altitude, oxygen levels, fule type, octance variables, spark, etc.....

is the best AF suggested set by factory? or is it conservative? is it the safest? who determines that? are they all the same? why not only have generic rom tune, isnt that the best then? explain what is the best tune.

thanks.

i think by best he meant something that he feels will be reliable and not a shitty tune that can blow his motor. it also seems he has a problem with gaining trust for ppl for doing such things as shitty tunes.

Tyler

You are describing the ideal tune, which would be ideal but its not the BEST.

Could you expect to give a car 1 tune and have it to win competitive drag and drift events without changing the tune? no, i don't think so.

drag by nature is only supposed to last for a few seconds, so those cars are tuned for max power output. in a drift car you would desire a slightly richer a/f ratio which would sacrifice some of the power but for reliability.

the goals are so different on the real competitive cars that i do not know how you can say that anything is the BEST tune without comparing it to everything else out there.

Ed at Ballanced Performance is known as the best Hondata tuner in the Southeast - if that helps.

Zilvia is correct. I'm looking for the best tuneR, and the best tune for my car was like I had listed, autocross/road race (roebling road, etc.) and that's about it. If I had built a drag car I wouldn't have gone RB20, in fact I wouldn't have actually gotten a 240 either. But, I am building my car for street driving/autocross/road racing.

 hu. My experience with tuning is that Balanced Performance in sugarhill did a very good job on my sr. i have a 14 to 1 mix. A very smooth torque curve and a reliable tune to say the least. we can't seem to figure out why the idle surges still though. cleaned the tps .Nothing .i don't have an 02 sensor though..?

list your mods if you are comfortable please.

idle surge is a sexy thing.

got the emanage here as well on my rb20. why not go ahead and switch over to the PRofect with the emanage so you have the ease of a electric boost controller as well as a display that can show you the other good stuff that comes along with having an emanage, as well as be able to tune the emanage thru the PRofec.
