what motor and what other mods do you plan on doing? how many horsepower and what kind of power band do you wish to achieve?

do you know what cams, springs rates, durations, turbo size and boost you planning to run?

If you were a gangster, you could get a dremel, some beers, and do it yourself.

ive got a ka24e, i dont really understand spring rates and such, because i havent ever looked at it. im planning for 250+ horsepower, turbo, about 15psi, durations? if anyone could explain, do tell. still learning about engines. and i thought about getting a dremel and doing it, but id like it to still run, and smooth after i get done. im thinking about 3 way

i've got a ka24 head you can get to practice on $40

3 Way?
whats that?

duration is for the cams. when the cam rotates around/lobe of the cams.
how the valve opens, etc. things like that.

I doubt that you need a pnp for 250 whp. I would just port match, and use the money i saved on a good fuel system.

meh.
practice on a spare head.

for that, i would just do a 250 NA.

port and polish that shiat.

:)

stronger and smoother internals.
nice flow.
fuel delivery and engine management.

NA > FI
NA = $.

Duration refers to how long a valve is opened in relation to crankshaft rotation
Cam lift is used to determine how wide(deep) the valve is opened.

Longer/wider of duration/lift will help better air flow at higher RPM. But suffer less efficiency at lower RPM due to minimal "swirl effect".

thanks. hey, i might buy your head to practice on, it just depends. but for right now, i dont have the money for boost, so im just going n/a for now, build up the internals, and then throw a turbo on it. basically what i plan on doing is getting some forged pistons, shot peened connecting rods, arp head studs, when i find em, a new camshaft from nissan performance or something like that, valves, springs, probably a few other things as well. but im out of money since i just bought the parts i needed to make it run good. so im out about 700 bucks. the exhaust took away my monies.
but im just rebuilding the engine right now. if anyone happens to have a ka24e for free or really friggin cheap that i can build up, thad be great

ive a ka24de block and a head, but im building it up, heh.

why go with a kae if you're gonna build it up?
go for dohc? parts are alot easier to source.

because im being different. and i want to build up the engine ive got now, i mean, why swap out the engine if i already have a perfectly good one? and i have had no problem finding parts for my car yet. so im not woried. dc makes a turbo manifold, nissan and many other places have camshafts, the pistons are the same as the DOHC, so really, im not worried, and even if they werent, ive still found some. so i like it.

pistons aren't same as the dohc, jfyi.
dc = dc sports?

I'm sure you're there already ;)

nope
not really.
but like i said, ive found pistons and stuff already. everything i said i was wanting to get, ive found. google gets it done. but like i said to begin with, what whould the cost be to get it ported and polished?

I thought that the pistons were different.?. Like if you put de pistons in an e it would give you a high c.r.... or was it vice versa.... :screwy:

NISSAN SR20DET
STD. HEADWORK
disassemble/ clean/ inspection
port & polish
multi-angle valve job
deshroud valve area in chamber
polish chambers
surface deck
assembly
*** bronze guides add 295.00 partrs & labor*** 1250.00

Thats for an sr, but prices should be around the same. You might be able to get it done cheaper somewhere locally

they are different.
the piston face is designed differently from dohc. oem pistons, anyways.

aftermarket pistons are also differently made, its app. specific.

p&p from a reputable shop can run upwards of $500-600

ima gonna do it myself. its cheaper. jegs porting kit and a die grinder and a lot of time. should be fun, im not going to do a major job, im just gonna make sure its nice and smoothed out. but thanks for the prices. ive been looking up how to do it and i found all that i will need,

babowc

gl, don't sand through too much.
just gasket match and smoothen out the casting marks.
you should be good.

09-17-2007, 02:48 PM
yeah, thats what im goin to da. i got me a die grinder yesterday. now all i have to do is get some more money and get the kit.

babowc
09-17-2007, 03:42 PM
you dont even need the kit actually.
just get a flapper wheel and start with that.
you dont need the stones afaik.

but of course, the kit would be a definite way w.o having to buy things seperately.

Beez_S13

yeah, ive been trying to fing a flapper wheel. ive already gotten one peice ill need from lowes, ill start with that on my exhaust side and work my way from there and see how it does.
