I was thinking about suspension for my car(95 S14, five lug, Z32 brakes F+R). And I was wanting to go with Ground-Control Coilovers (450lbs/in F and 350lbs/in R) and KYB AGX shocks. Any comments? Does anyone have this setup? If so: pros/cons? I know that typically sleeve and spring coilovers like the Ground-Controls can be kind of shity, but I had a friend of mine run those with Koni Yellow Adjustables(now discontinued) in a SCCA circuit, and he swears by that setup. And I like the fact that I can order different spring rates from Ground-Control at little cost. Is it more worth it go with a real coilover setup such as the Tein, KTS, Apexi, etc...? Or will this setup suffice? BTW, I'm going for more of a street/track(road coarse, some drag racing down the road) setup rather than drifting. Thanks guys, let me know what ya think!

How about trying AGX first before you go Coilovers?
And how often you think you will be racing in road course?
Daily Driver ?

I will try to be on the track as much as I can, which also includes auto-x events. but what I'm asking is the AGX shocks with the Ground-Control sleeve/spring coilovers a good setup, I am trying to find out info on that first and foremost. Finding out if this setup would be equal to coilovers such as Tein, KTS, Apexi, etc... is a close second.

Among AGX and Yellow, hand down 100% -> Yellow if $$ allow
if you going to start AutoX, I would recommend stock suspension first.
tires are the best investment for AutoX.
Top 5 racer for most event are cars with stock suspension.
(because different spring will bump you to different/harder class)

oh ok, well as a tire right now I have take off STI Potenza RE070s on mustang 17x8 wheels, but I also want a suspension under the car. I see what your saying about how much I am actually going to use the car for what and how it determines what I get, but how are the AGXs, since they don't make the Koni yellows for the 240SX any more? And what do you think about using the ground-controls?

potenza RE070 are nice tires. I had #1 AutoX rated Azenis 615.
But is not the "stickiest" tires.
With either AGX or Yellow, since you dont' modify the height of your car, you will still consider "stock class".
I have no experience in ground-controls. I don't see many AutoX'ers have them. money spent on ground-controls give less ROI compare to others mods
Try sway bar instead

Who's? oh yeah. Mine!

Megan Racing streets are not that much more than a spring/strut combo, and you get much more adjustablity. I love my megan street coilovers.

well if your buddy still has his car, just go and drive it and see if it fits. figure it out then what you want.

Good thing about real coilovers is you can lower em' with out bottoming out your struts cause you lower the whole shock not just the spring.

but I dont know the rules in autocross and if they will bump you to a different level or what ever they do.

Adding coilovers will not bump you up.

Really the only things that are going to bump you is if you are running forced induction if you didnt have it in the first place. Wider tires, slicks, and different motors. Weight reduction will get you as well.

then hell with it and get real coilovers! They were leaps and bounds better than my agx/eibach set-up...

then again I dont autox so thats all feel not hard fact.

I would go with coilovers for a couple of reasons. They are less hassle and they perform almost as good as those strange custom setups.

For example with my car there are 4 levels of susp. setups (I drive a Sentra Spec V)

1. Megan or Nismo
2. Tein SS or D2
3. JIC A1 or A2s
4. Then the koni yellow + cut 240 springs

For ride quialty/performance they say go with nismo or Tein. For Cheap assness go with megan. For Handling go with either the JIC or the koni thing. They say the difference between the JIC and the koni is that the koni setup is more work and more adjustable and the JIC is alil less adjustable and does just as well.

Most coilovers also come with camiber plates and there is a reason why the spring rates are set like that. Someone tuned them like that cas they thought it felt pretty damn good.

I would go with a good set of coilovers personally. If you are auto x'ing they are nice cas they are easy to findle with once you get there and have done a run or 2. If you feel you need to change some of the damping and what not.

for all that application.

coilovers win.

add up all those parts you spent. shock and springs. oohh, camber adjustments from and rear.

you can set up the spring preload the way you want them and lower the entire shock so the consistency is still there with no sacrificial bump stops.

you can set it up for drag with a few clicks away. or adjust preload with a few turn of the wrench. and the setup will last you 4-5 times longer.

with a one year warranty with free replacements.

and you can order shocks.

and different spring rates. from different company, say swift springs, if yo want?

so its rebuildable.

and it woud costs you almost the same as what you spent and save you money eventually. and the best part is, you can still sell the whole setup after you are done with them for some good money. hah!

unless you were given all those spring shocks combo coilover sleeves etc for dirt cheap or free, then its another consideration of course.

but even if its free, i would sell them and buy coilovers.

good luck.
