so after installing my new gt28rs i was so happy with the results...then all of a sudden my fuckin driver side window wouldnt go up or down , i would just hear metal shredding...
so i opened up the door panel and to my surprise , the pulleys have intertwined themselves and crossed over...
and i have these "aftermarket" power windows so i cant just buy a window regulator...dont know what to do...
afraid to park my car at places now and its too hot to leave the window up...
Just order another set of aftermarket ones.

you got a car that has all kinds of gremlins because someone messed with it in the first place.
then work your way into doing everything right.
good luck.
still on stock injectors?

yea stock injectors...the car does have alot of gremlins , ive fixed most of everything though...
the best one was when it rains , the alarm would chirp with the increase of rpm's and the windows would come down by themselves...i thought my car got possessed...
i just need some 550's and a z32maf with a tune...ill be good

so the turbo you bought is a true garrett 2871 from ebay or was it an ebay turbo from a different company that is a 2871 equivalent ?
BenefitX
09-17-2007, 03:15 PM
it was not a garrett, dont know what it was , just had GT28RS written on the housing and was the .71 compressor side...
it was fine until i went WOT after about 300 miles , it just has shaft play everywhere...
car is being sold anyways...time for something better

okay...
i said check ure oil pressure on aim and you were like yah i should bla bla bla
you got the motor from tyler. you havent had it for years...
and you now chime in and say its an ebay turbo when you said it was a garrett... and advertised it was one.
so youre trying to sell the car with a turbo that you still claim is a real garrett. and you are now telling us its an ebay one?
so u getting your money back or something?
i need my emissions done first :(

i never said it was a Garrett. maybe you assumed that.
the turbo doesn't have anything to do with the sale of the car, the buyer can keep the turbo if they want or take it off if they want. i will be the only one losing money since i still paid for the turbo.
seriously , oil pump bad? i've been daily driving the car for a month, highway and city...
just go back to reading "turbo for dummies" , with the 500 horsepower and borla exhaust.

There is the GT2860RS, which is the "Disco Potato". Then there is a GT2871RS.

perhaps companies swap housings or something
the S in the RS stands for a higher flowing.
and by taking a quick look at the compressor charts. between the 60rs and 60r
you can see the RS is a supperior turbo
so that means the S is a compressor feature. not a turbine feature.
so swapping the 60 rs to a 71r
drops the S off the name.

Ok, I think we are talking about the same thing here.
The GT2860RS and the GT2871R as marked on Garretts site are exactly the same turbo, except for the Compressor housing. Thats why everyone just calls it GT2871RS.

Ok, well I'm not patient enough for you, so I did it myself. ;)
I called Limit Engineering and Turbo's Direct as listed on the distributors section of Garretts site. They were the only ones open.
Limit Engineering said that the S specifically stands for the "Hose in, hose out" configuration of the turbo. Or also called "Slip Fit" Meaning it has no flange, like another turbo might have on the compressor housing, you can just use a coupler.
Turbo's Direct agreed with what Limit said, without me mentioning it. But also noted that he wasn't entirely sure that was all the difference and is going to call Garrett later and get back with me on exactly what it stands for. Because, if the S did stand for that configuration, then why wouldn't' the GT2871R and GT2876R also have the S because it is the same type.
So.. There you have it. :)
UPDATE:
Well, Turbo's Direct called me back. He talked directly to Garrett. This is what they said.
The S, was originally supposed to stand for a single port wastegate actuator. But, since most of the turbo's that they started making were only single port, they dropped the s, and never applied it. But then since the GT2860RS, was made specially for Nissan for racing, the designer of that turbo put the S back on there just to specify that it was a "Special" turbo. And thus, the only difference in the GT2860RS and GT2871R is the slightly larger compressor housing/wheel.

hmmm
this is what garretts website says
Positions "zz" may be used to designate special features of a particular turbocharger where applicable
* Example: GT2860RS
* "R" = this is a Ball Bearing unit
* "S" = used for units which require some differentiation from units in the same family
Compare a GT2860R to a GT2860RS. While both are ball bearing and externally similar, the GT2860RS is better suited for higher-flow applications than the GT2860R. In this case, the S reflects the higher-flowing nature of the GT2860RS
i think thats what its talking about.
the part of the turbo that uses a coupler instead of a flange.
"higher flowing" i would asume a 4 inch or 3 inch coupler rather than a 2.5 inch flange would flow better.
idk i think there is a difference between the gt2860r and the gt2860rs
other than just the s.
cuz... they are very different turbos.... lol
anyways
lol thanks for calling i was about to do that haha then i read the thread.

There is a huge difference in the GT2860R and GT2860RS. The RS is a special redesigned turbo made for Nissan Racing. I never said it was the same turbo.
But.. The GT2871R(S) is the same turbo as the GT2860RS, just with a larger compressor housing and wheel.
