Hey guys.. Saw your stickers on a few S13 downtown and decided to drop in. Looks like a good forum.

I have an S13 I purchased about 2 months ago as a project car and what a project its been so far. Just replaced my master cylinder, and she was running good until dying on me the other day in the middle of the hood. Was fun waiting on a tow truck with all the crackheads in a liquor store parking lot :-)

Anyway.. she cranks up now.. I thought my fuel pump was going (and it may be), but now the engine is clicking. Oil levels are fine.. I changed it when I got the car, and check regularly (she does burn a lil bit).. as well as checking the timing, and changing all filters. Not sure what's going on yet.. but this car is an 18 year old daily driver with 201k.. I know this will be a fun project.

Hey man, welcome! Its cool to hear that you saw our stickers. We just got them out and you're the first that I know of to head over from seeing them.

I have my fair share of talking to crack heads from working down so I feel ya! haha.

I think most of our 240's burn oil so you're not alone... These motors will go forever tho if taken care of. You're in the right place for tech help on your 240! Do you have any more issues since it died? After you towed it did it just start runnin again by itself?

Yeah, I saw some of you all at the Varsity, but I didn't talk to many people there since I didn't know anyone. My 240 was red with some spots of primer from a bad spray primer job the previous owner did.

I didn't try cranking the car right after getting it towed, but the next day I checked the fuses under the hood (namely the fuel pump fuse), popped them back in because they were fine, and tried cranking again for the heck of it and it starts right up. The engine does make a ticking sound, so I haven't tried pulling her out of the driveway just yet.. afraid it might die on me again till I find the root of the problem. I would consider myself novice when it comes to cars.. I sell Nissans, but this car is my first experience doing any work on one.

It has a brand new fuel filter, and fairly new plugs. I changed the fuel filter, air filer, oil, and master cylinder (was leaking) shortly after I got the car. Plugs and wires are fairly new, I looked at them when I got the car 2 months ago and the guy I bought it from said they were changed recently anyway. Everything ran very well until the other day :-/

I had KA24e, I guess yours too.
Some different oil might take away ticking. What you are using?
Checking the injectors connection. They are known to have problem on SOHC

Mine is currently the stock KA24E.. I wish I had the money for a swap to at least the dual cam.. but it will come later down the road.

I use Mobil 1 10w30 oil. Thought about pouring in some Lucas to see if it helps. Would the injectors cause the ticking? Seems I have a motor prob causing the ticking, and I may also have a fuel prob due to the way it died on me the other night. It would turn over when I tried to crank it, but then sputter out (the night I got the tow truck).

the ticking may be the lifters. if it is take em out and spray up with brake cleaner.

My personal opinion, and research, and everywhere I read, oil addictives/conditioners are all BS. Stay away from Lucas.

Yes, injectors does tick. Is normal.
When is time to change oil, replace it with 0-40 or 5-40, it might help a little.
Valvoline Synpower 5w-40 (hard to find. it does exist)
Mobil 1 0w-40 (walmart has it, sometimes. Not all Mobil 1 are the same)
Use it for 2 oil change, then replace it with cheaper oil, like Valvoline Maxlife Full Sythentic 10w-40.
OR anything that you like. Make sure it pass ACEA A3 spec. (not A1, A4, or B1)
Continue to use injectors/fuel system cleaner if fund allow. Just a couple times.
Did I say stay away from oil addictives?
