My father-inlaw gave me a set of q45 brakes, front rear and master cylinder. should I change it all, or just fronts, backs and keep my master cylinder

Just do the fronts and master cylinder - don't need rear. Less work, not much difference :)

If the rears will work i say do the rears as well.
I hate seeing cars running these brake upgrades or huge rotors and calipers in the front and leaving the stock small ass piece of shit rears on. If your going to do it IMO do it front, rear, and master. Or dont do it at all

If the rears can match up, do it. The fronts are direct swaps but I have no clue on the rears. Keep us updated if they work!!

do everything. and either a 300zx brake booster, or an auto 240sx brake booster. the booster upgrades will actually make a pretty good difference in braking power.

I'm looking at Q45 fronts... dunno what to put in back though... I have the memory of a fish... can't remember what works on an S14, but the info is easy to find.

My father in-law said they wont work cause the 45 has a drum/rotor rear. I dono? But ain't tha booster supposed to be hard to change?...

Rears don't work. If you are looking for something for the rear, do 300ZX.

Rears won't work due to drums, but I have heard people do rear swaps with full J30 parts (this would include the knuckles and whatnot). J30 and Q45 may be similar?!?!
If you do just the Q45 fronts you won't really need the master cylinder swapped. But I think it would be best to atleast do a 300zx rear and 300zx master cylinder swap.
FYI, if you go for the Q45 front brake upgrade w/ stock BMC and booster expect to have a "Spongy" feel for the first 1"-1 1/2" of pedal travel. Then hold on!!! It is managable. I have gotten used to it. The stock rear brakes hardly get a workout under normal street use. I have not tracked them yet.
Note: to fix pedal feel I plan to upgrade the BMC(15/16") and the Booster to S14 Auto. I have researched that this will give back "stock" pedal feel.
My 2 Cents...

I would stick with a 300zx setup it but if your going to do it, do it all. The systems are designed a certain way. Why take the chance in picking and choosing with mismatching system pieces. You would probably be just fine doing only the fronts but why.
