View Full Version : Ebrake sucks...
Is there anything i can do to make my ebrake work better? Even in the rain i can yank the crap out of it and its REALLY hard to lock up the rear wheels...

adjust yer cable maybe?
possible cause.
Thought about that, it feels tight but I'll try it anyway... I'm wondering if it's just the fact that it sucks LOL. I was able to get it to break loose this morning in the rain in a turn... but only in a turn...

lol mine isfine.. i have to get it up past 30* though.
i can maybe go up 50* lol.
Ok so i tried it today and now its working LOL, maybe I'll tighten it tomorrow... I found it works a WHOLE lot better if you're in a turn and some weight is already transfered. I also was able to yank it HARD and lock up the tires in a streight line on dry pavement... Maybe i was forgetting to put in the clutch lol.
Oh and shift lock is fun

lol.
tighten the cable. or sometimes they are just old and you have to replace them. or if you are me you are adding a master cylinder for the the rear brakes with a handle :D

gonna look at it tomorrow...
Yeah i don't like using the ebrake to initiate drifts but i wana know how to do it every way possible :).

are you pushing the clutch in while you're pulling the e-brake? if not, do that and it will undoubtably work (assuming you're giving it a very strong and quick pull).
EDIT: nevermind, just saw you already mentioned that in an earlier post :).

Ebrakes don't squeeze the caliper around the rotor as normal brakes do. They merely slide the caliper over manually. If you only one side is locking up then the caliper is sticking or the individual cable to that side is too long, loose, broke etc.

lol
i have no more ebrake..
anyone got two retaining springs for the z32 ebrake assembly?>
>_<
Was just doing some more searching since I'm thinking about buying a new e-brake cable and found a few things... Some people were saying that you can actually adjust the cable at the point where it splits in two and also at each rear caliper. Anyone done it before?
Also anyone know of somewhere local I can buy the cable? I found it on the internet for 27$...

EDIT: Also an update, with braking to shift weight to the front of the car i can pretty consistantly lock up the rear wheels in a streight line. The cable still feels mushy tho compared to some others... It will get tight but then i can continue to pull (feels like stretching) for another few inches...

yeah dude get another master cylinder for the ebrake =D like was mensioned earlier.
i dont like ebraking at all...
i say clutch weight transfer and pop the wheel a tad and bam ure around
or just all steer in an automatic open diff =D lol
tons of different ways
i think on throttle is the most controlled way for me...
course youre rollin an open diff so i dunno how that rides on drifting

Naw, I'm on welded diff right now.
I don't really use ebrake much at all to start drifts, actually i've only done it once. I just want to be able to do it if i feel so inclined to do so :).

I don't think I'll go to that extent just for a really good ebrake... I've got it lockin pretty good now and I'll just get a new cable eventually...

yeah. that is more for a purpose built drift car. It would be awesome to do that but that will be WAY later. LOL i would love to have it but it is not something i need. all the people in formula D have them.

120-130 bucks for hydro setup....
20 bucks for a new cable...... :-P
gotta pay for the consistency....
Yah, my 240 is a purpose built drift car but I don't want to rely on the e-brake... Might do it some day tho.

If tightening doesn't work.
Get a new cable.
One thing I noticed on my old car when it was only locking one side is the bracket where the line splits to both wheels was F$%ked and one side was loose and other was tight.
also URAS makes a bracket for where the line connects at the caliper to make it clamp harder.

URAS Tatsunootoshigo (seahorse) for S13. This little bracket attaches to the rear hubs and allows the rear brakes (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=178522#) to lock up easier when using the e-brake. When installed, the extra leverage provided will reduce the force required to lock up the rear brakes. Simple and great idea....
Someone local start making these!

the E-brake is crucial in drifting maybe not at the level that most of us are at but alot of tracks you need the e-brake to link all the turns the right way...i dont care what anyone says you need to learn to use the E brake!!!! reps to flip for wanting to learn!!!! IMO the ebrake is a more controlled initiation than a clutch kick...maybe not as smooth but i definately feel more in control with the E brake!!

Wow! Thanks. I didn't even know those existed. Reps for you!!!
My ebrake locks up pretty well but I have stopped using it since I need motor mounts and a trans mount...too much moving for my liking.
I've tightened the brake cable and you can really tell a difference.
