yeah he did a 30 mins of diagnosis over the phone to make sure it wasn't what he wired up... and then i was expecting him to hang up :-P... but another 30 mins he helped me find the problem and is helping me fix it tom for free!!!! :) another great experience...

heh np man,

yeah, the rb's have a separate coil pack sub-harness and sometimes the plugs that go to the coil packs get brittle, crack, and break.

so i wired up the engine harness and i gave him a coil pigtail so he could repair the cylinder 1 coil at home and that's where the problem was.

on the rb20's the ignition coil signal wire for cylinder 1 is black, the middle wire is the 12volts and is white, and on the other side is the ground which is black. so you have a black wire on each side and a white in the middle, so he wired it up upside down/backwards, an easy mistake if you don't test the wiring before trying to start the car.

so after guiding him through some tests with his test light we found that he had wired the new coil pack plug upside down so the constant ground for the coil was wired to the signal pin of the coil pack thus keeping the coil pack sparking continuisly intern frying it, the ignitor and hopefully not the circuit for cylinder 1 in the ecu. so he came today and i repaired the subharness and replaced a couple other coil plugs for him because they were broken as well.

hopefully the ecu's ok but i wanted to document the culprit so in the future someone else could benefit from the information.

if you don't know what you're doing, careless, or uninformed you can mess a lot of stuff up simply by wiring up 1 wire incorrectly. so be cautious or take it to a professional.

anywho once you get it up and running i'll see you again to trouble shoot the other wiring gremlins in the chassis and lower harness wiring that the owner of the shell before you screwed up.

c u soon and thanks for the review
