I need to turn the rotors on my DD and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get it done at a resonable price?
In the past shops want to charge in the range of $20 each when I can just buy new rotors for around $35, I understand they want to make money and they wont get the money for the brake service but it is not like they really have to do anything demanding.
Thanks for any help!
Oh yeah alpharetta, roswell, johns creek area would help.

Last time I had it done, was at Pep Boys. I think it was like $8 per rotor.
Granted, it was down here in Clayton County, but Pep Boys is a nationwide name.

Thanks, Pepboys $14.99 which is a little high, O'Rielly is $10 so that is what I shall most likely do. I have the money to get it done I just hate to overpay when all they have to do is set up the lathe (or whatever it is called) and walk away.

$10 sounds reasonable.

I remember Tyler saying they resurface flywheels, so I just figured they did rotors also. Good guess :)

If you had gone to a shop would you have been bothered that they would have charged you like $30? Every shop I have ever worked at has charged that much or more to resurface rotors.

Well duh, because if they aren't doing it themselves, they take it to O'Reilly's and charge $20 to make profit over their $10 expense.
Take the rotors to O'Reilly's.

I would not be bothered because I would not go to a shop and $30 each is rediculous especially when I can buy brand new ones for $35...now if the shop was actually taking my wheel and caliper off and putting them back on sure $30 is reasonable....shit just for brakes in $99 to do your brakes that is only $40 more.

I have always had in house brake lathes, most people don't like to farm out work.:gay:

I agree that $30 is expensive for a very remedial task of cutting rotors, and think that if some one is crazy enough to spend that or more they get what they deserve. Now just brakes is about the last place anyone needs to have work done on this serious of a component. Honestly I would replace the rotors, at least you know what you got. If you were a customer I would tell you the same thing. when resurfacing rotors you are removing material form your disk. Causing it to be thinner than before, and more likely to become warped more quickly again and again. Though I understand the value of the service and have performed it hundreds of times over the years. I have never resurfaced my rotors, no matter if it was my dd or anything else. But I will say this O'riely's is the only parts store I would use for anything that would require an employee to potentially touch anything that would be going on my car.

^agreed totally in both aspects I usually never resurface my rotors and just buy new ones but I was just seeing what the cost would be. I would never go to just brakes nor would I ever recommend anyone else to go there, I was just using that as a cost factor for resurfacing at any shop.
I also realize most shops just double whatever their cost is for parts such as rotors, example shop cost for rotors are $25 so customer cost is $50 so the shop just made 100% profit on the part and then they get to charge labor for installing the parts. Now that being said I understand that it is a business and they need to make a profit but I am capable of doing everything other than resurfacing the rotors myself so I would rather not pay the inflated cost and do it myself.

Well I am complete understanding. I hate that I have to charge anyone more than I pay for parts, as I think that everyone should be able to spend less and still get good quality. So I will usually (for friends and regulars) I will allow them to get my cost or as close as I can give to it. I will charge book time at $60 an hour, but the cost is usually lower for them, which makes them happier and me too because I know that they got great service and will return for future services

If they're normal iron rotors replacing them is cheap but the aluminum ones that are drilled and slotted are much more expensive (not to mention people with BBK's). Getting that extra rotor turn can be worth it sometimes.

lonnie, my buddy here at the shop can do your rotors..
same place where you met me last.
you dont even have to take your rotors off your car, it is done on the car while its on the lift.
i can find out how much he will hook you up for if ya like.

To posters other than OP:
I was actually at a tire place yesterday and someone came in asking the same question, the owner said they don't do it any more because "you can just buy them at NAPA or whatever for less money than the labor on turning them".
And Justin, I see what you're saying but if you don't have the money to maintain an aftermarket brake set up, you shouldn't have bought one in the first place.
To OP:
Good luck, let us know where you end up/the price.
Cameron.

I see what you're saying but spending 30 bucks to turn your rotors when they'll work perfectly well is better than spending a few hundred on the new ones :)

If it's an S14 and stock rotors... buy new, super cheap. But I'm guessing it's not.
