how and what do you need to make z32 rear calipers work on s13/ s14.?and are they really worth the swap?

If its a street only car, no they're not worth it. All you NEED is the calipers, rotors, pads, and lines. If you want the ebrake to work you'll need new cables and the Z32 Ebrake assembly.

i disagree, i think the rears are entirely worth it for a street car. for moderate, every day braking. of course not they make no difference. but under heavy braking without the z32 rear brakes your fronts will lock much faster than the rears. heavy braking being during emergency braking. the stock brakes are paired to each other.
when you upgrade just the fronts the bias changes significantly. not to mension the pedal feel is like ass after you only upgrade the fronts

He didn't say he had upgraded anything else. In my observations it is always best to assume any noobs posting questions like this are retarded and have no other mods on there car unless they say so. With that in mind I naturally assume he has stock brakes and wants to add rears since he found a good deal on them.

sorry to thread jack. but is the e-brake assembly ABSOLUTELY necessary to retain a working e-brake?
Cool Cat Racing
05-18-2009, 01:00 AM
Is poop necessary to take a shit? How else do you think an Ebrake is going to work if you have no ebrake? If you don't use the Z32 assembly you're not going to have any ebrake parts. The S series uses the caliper as the ebrake actuator while the Z32 uses an integrated drum assembly inside the rotor hat.

ok maybe i should be more specific. can i not use my s14 e-brake assembly?

if you upgrade to z32 rears, then yes. lol.
stock calipers have a built in ebrake on the caliper.
the z32 brakes have an ebrake assembly that bolts to the hub and contacts the inside of the rotors

I did it all corners.
it wasn't difficult, but finding the rear plates for a decent price was a bitch.

You can get remans from just about everywhere for about $70. And S14POW, you hardly got maimed. We were just fucking with you. Go find some of the truly covered dumb ass questions and see the responses.

I heard the remans don't have the third hole or something.
I have a bmc, but I need to cut my stock bmc and get a fitting out or some bullshit like that.
it'd be a pita.. i'm just really lazy to do it.

ive got a spare bmc from my s14. ill cut it apart and get the little fitting out of it.
the ebrake cables from an r32 are supposed to work for an s13 with z32 ebrake assembly...

yeah apparently r33 cables work for the s14

Yea, S14's can use R33 cables, they're pretty much bolt on from that point. if you get all the Z32 stuff. As for the remans, some will come with the fitting and others won't. Not all the cars came with that fitting so even getting new ones doesn't insure you'll get it. They're not hard to find and they just unscrew from the MC.

Do you just unscrew the fitting from a s13 mc?
I heard you have to cut it up and shit.. as well as making sure you don't cut into the fitting and all that bs.
I didn't want to deal with that so I didn't touch my bmc..

If you knew everthing then why did you ask?
HAHA
YES brett you can use r33 e brake cables, and everything work fine.
Although ruffer complained about his, might have been his clutch he complained about tho. He's old anyway. Are you planning on putting these on the S14?

r32 cables for complete ebrake cable change over for use with z32 rears, or you get the z32 ebrake cables and the little extension brackets, or just splice the z32 ebrake cable from the assembly to your s13 ebrake cables from the interior.
all 3 work. its just of matter of time and money.
r32 cables run about 200 (have to remove the s13 cables and replace with these....pita if you ask me). z32 cable extensions run about 30, not sure on price of z32 ebrake cables tho (same as r32 cables, pull out s13 cables and replace...pita again). little ubolt brackets to splice s13 to z32 runs about 10 for 2 packs (short and sweet.....and cheap).

I spliced mine and I should've left more slack.. but I didnt.
I need to take the rotors off and see whats happening inside.
i tightened it as much as a longsocket will allow me, but that barely makes the wheels lock up...!

no you cut it out carefully, then unscrew the plug in the z32 bmc (sometimes its a 5 sided allen type wrench which is hard to find.)
then you use a punch to put the third pressure fitting in the z32 bmc.
then you are good to install.

Be careful when using a punch. If you're not careful, you'll crush the flare on the fitting. It needs to be pressed in. I got it set in place, and then used a brake line to finish the job. Just be careful and don't pull any threads up.

I thought my S14's pedal feel was awesome with Z32 fronts and stock rears, so I dunno either. I think someone with a lot of braking experience said it once on NICO a few years ago and everyone else just went along with it.

my pedal felt mushy when i put on the z32 BMC with stock rears. now i have z32 f/r brakes, new rotors, and the z32 bmc. feels nice and stiff again. as for the s13 to z32 bmc change, i didnt have to salvage parts off the s13 bmc. the z32 bolted right up and all the brake lines fit snugly. the middle line was a bit of a pain, but still went in after some elbow grease.

my bad its 17/16" master cylinder. its the bigger one.
and its 26 dollars my discount (if you have an account with them it should be the same). i think it was $42 list price.
what i did was buy the master without a resevoir and swapped the resevoir from my master to the new one so i didnt have to convert the wires

Its plus tax. also theres a $30 core charge so i will need the original from you. they dont have any in stock so it will take a day or two to get them.
it is bolt in. the easiest thing to do is just swap the resevoirs so you use the same wiring from the s13 instead of converting to z32 wiring

i did not have to change any wiring. i have z32 bmc with z32 resevoir. be careful with oriellys and that "oh we can get it in a day or two". they told me that when i had to replace a caliper. week later they still didnt have it or have any idea where it was or if it was even coming. pep boys got it to me the next day and they were about 20 bucks cheaper
