I just realized how bad i want to just drive my car on the track, i could care less to drift it (which i would love to) on the horse shoe. I would want to be able to push my car and see how far my coilovers can go.
so does anyone know what R.A policys are getting local cars on the track, not to race, but yes to go fast. how much would i have to pay.
and who would i talk to.

only until the instructor thinks your ready to move on. which typically is about 2-3 events and its not only at RA, they hold them all around. local for us would be CMP, Roebling, and of course RA.

how much does it cost to rent the track.
and do you guys rent r.a.I'm not sure - a lot though. Usually a couple clubs will go in on the price. We've done Road Atlanta before, as well as Roebling Road and several others. I know the wrxatlanta club is active in road racing, as well as the Miata guys. I'd suggest trying to find a club that is active in doing track days and trying to get in on them. You need to make sure your car is TIP TOP for this kind of thing. You need upgraded brake pads and fluid at the least, and make sure there are no issues or leaks or overheating from your car. You also need an approved helmet.
Road racing is more stressful on your car and more dangerous than autocross or drifting because of the high speeds.
If you're really serious about it, I can try and get some people here that'd be interested in doing this together and maybe try to go in on a track event with the s2k guys, or maybe we could find some people on importatlanta that has a day setup somewhere.

Yeah the z32 brakes are the 300zx brakes. z32 is the chassis code just like s13 is the chassis code for your car. Hawk/Cobalt are some good brake pads to look into, as well as some DOT4/5 brake fluid. I recommend ATE Super Blue which is DOT4 and will work great for street and track.
I might be able to spare a can of the super blue for $15-20 if you're interested.

Z32 brakes are 4 piston ones with larger rotors, but I believe you will need to do a 5 lug swap so that you dont have to mod your rotors everytime you need new ones.

harsh marty, but you lay it out straight and to the point.
I agree 100%. start with auto-x. i bet once you start that, any car controll that you thought you had, you dont. learn your limits and your car. test different seating positions, tire pressure, etc. just test and feel out everything so youll know exactly whats out of wack if something ever is.
got to start somewhere to get somewhere. i started doing autox a long time ago. i have personally been on roadatl. its fun, but deffinatly would have been a ricer out there if i never did my autoxing and didnt learn my stuff.

Some advice, take it or leave it. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, but.......
I recommend to anyone who wants to do this type of thing to get some basic instruction first. Autocrossing is good but not always applicable to road racing. So pony up a couple of grand and do a racing school. Now you are probably saying "WTF, I don't have that kind of money!" But then again how much money do you have to buy a new car if you crash at Road Atlanta?
And Road Atlanta is a very fast, technical, unforgiving track. We call it the concrete canyon because there are few, real, run off areas, and usually if you put a wheel wrong, you will be in the barriers. Ask me how I know.
And I may not be the best driver out there, but I have been racing at Rd Atl. for 18 years. And I would not recommend it for the first track event either.
Now let’s say you say, "ah man, that old dude doesn’t know wtf he's talking about". Ok, then the next thing you need to think about is your car. If you are going to do anything high speed you will at a minimum need to "nut and bolt" your car. That means going over every nut and bolt and making sure everything is tight and properly torqued. You would be surprised what a beating a car gets when it's tracked. A loose (you name it here) can really ruin your day as you rocket towards the inside wall cause you forget to check it.
NASA and SCCA both offer high speed track events, as well as many clubs. All will have slightly different safety requirements. So you'll need to make sure you have all the safety equipment required. Most will want you to have a helmet. Get a good one. What's your skull worth? Buy appropriately. I would not do an event and not wear one, and I would be a bit nervous not to have at least a five belt harness. That's just me. Of course I have flipped a car spinning through the esses at RD. ATL, so maybe I'm biased.
Take it slow at first. Go autocrossing. See if you really like it. If after a few events you still have to get on track, go to Little Talladega or Carolina Motorsports Park for your first track events, where there are plenty of runoff areas.
And remember the first rule of motor sports. If you can't afford to crash it and write it off, then you should reconsider being out there.
Now, after saying all that, I am not trying to discourage anyone's interest in racing on any level, but there's more to it all then just enthusiasm.
Again, take it for what's worth.
Cameron.

I can sometimes get on the track for free in the fall. I actually havent had my car running the times I was there but a couple of my friends have. Hopefully I will get to drive it this year.

Uhm, i would be scared to see you run road atlanta. Go to some auto crosses...get familiar with your car, then find someone doing track days at smaller simpler tracks like Little Talladega, that is an excellent track for beginners. It was my first track day experience. Uhm, and yeah z32 brakes will be wonderful on RA. I don't know personally but Erin (ls1 s13) said zbrake held up fine doing 180 and braking HARD into turn 10. So i trust his opinion over pretty much anyone that activley posts here...but yeah...
edit: damn didn't see tristan's post but yeah...

Well said. I work for RA. There is one way to get on the track for a track day without a license (besides random sport car club events like PCA, BMW, etc.) and that is Chin Motorsports. Their link is below. Here is a tiny clip of what they say about drivers:
"We welcome ALL enthusiasts; there is no requirement to own a particular marque of car. Almost any modern street car with OEM equipment can be used. Feel free to browse our event pictures (http://chinmotorsports.com/gallery/gallery.asp) pages to see a sample of the kinds of cars that participate. Competition prepared cars are also accepted. We welcome all drivers 18 and older, with a valid state drivers license. A licensed driver 16 or 17 years old may participate with a parent's waiver and supervision.
The default classification for all new members is novice. Drivers with existing track experience are asked to email a summary of track history so that you may be re-classified, if appropriate. In most cases, we recognize qualifications from well known car clubs, SCCA, NASA, etc... Please provide references and/or competition license numbers, if applicable. If you do not inform us of relevant experience, you will be classified as a novice driver, and will be required to have an instructor assigned."

Hope this helps.

Make sure the SR can handle the back straight. You don't want to be the guy responsible for shutting shit down because you unleash a torrent of oil and coolant on the track. Everything else has been said I think.
Never heard "concrete canyon" before. I like it.

Haha gotcha man, but I don't think anyone actually intends to push it to where they die. Sometimes it just happens that way.

Driver even walked away from that crash due to sexy safty equipment and a good roll cage. That is one hell of a crash though.

Nah once you learn to read the cones you will be fine, trust me dodge cones is ALOT easier than the mountain. You dont have to worry about elavation or cliffs.
The next one I am going to is going to be on the 17th of this month, assuming my car is done by then. If it isnt my GF and I can ride with you and I can co-drive with you. Not drive your car, but help you not get lost in the course, unless you wanted to let me drive your car... lol

You would be in Street mod or Street mod 2 for sure, but since you have never done it you should sign up in the novice class. That why they know you are a noob, then the guys who have been doing autox for longer than we have been alive will come over and help you.
Your motor swap, no cats, and susp. everything puts you into street mod. Plus you have ECM and all those goodies as well. If you arent in SM or SM2 you are in the same class as the STis. Because of mods you would be in ASP (A Class Street Prepared).
Since you are a noob though novice, then if you like then we can figure out where you are class wise.

Assuming my car is done, if you are to poor this month you can always come ride along. Ride alones are free, and there are plenty of cool people that wont mind if you take up their passenger seat.

They opened it up wensday, so I will have the news on what is wrong with it tomorrow I believe. From how the tranny felt to me it just needed a new syncro, but if they metal shavings or something like that in there I want a brand new tranny. As of right now they are rebuilding the tranny.
haha... I would love to see you drive your car, if I have my car that just means I can beat you. :taunt: Yup thems fighting words.:pirate:
