View Full Version : Problem...

So I had a tire blow out on the highway a few days ago, and I bought new ones and had to get them mounted and balanced. I didn't get home till about 9:15 this morning, and my dad had already taken the car and tires to the shop. He got home, and pretty much read me the riot act about how my suspension is crap, the car's chassis is "unsafe and a death trap," it's in such bad condition, etc...He told me to "get rid of that POS and start looking for a real car, something I can drive every day."

I do drive it every day, without a problem (except I need new bushings). The frame is rusty, but being a car from New England and being 17 years old, you have to expect these things. I suspect he's more afraid of me getting hit by someone else than the car suddenly breaking in half (his example), but he was angrier than I had ever seen him about this car.

I'm almost done with school, and I will graduate in December, so I'm still technically under my parents' insurance for everything....I'm just frustrated....

ahhh tell him to piss off and its your car

but

you should invest in new bushings. especially steering rack bushings
also, wat is your current setup?

My current setup is cheap: AGX's and Prokit.

I'm probably going to find some poly bushings at some point...soon. There are some electrical issues from the previous owner (read: lots and lots of taps into fuses, miles of wire that don't go anywhere, and random grounds that cause the fuse for the parking lights/gauge cluster lights to blow)...

Ouch, maybe invest in a new wiring harness and some bushings :).

some whiteline bushings if they make them for the s13 and a new harness is pretty much all you need...

I don't know what wire keeps making the fuse blow. It's going to take a lot of trial and error.

It doesn't matter...my mom even started in on me to get another car.

Go into the classifed section and pick on. Fly down pick it up, then drive it back home.

College student=no funds. I'm hoping it will last me and my parents will stop complaining till I get a job, then can pay a car payment if needs be. I think they're thinking Civic...

Suggestions?

Oh god its terrible up north. Ive seen what can happen to a good chassis form just staying outside or being a daily driver for just one year. My friend bough an fd rx7 from up in connecticut and was pretty lucky to find a chassis with little erosion to it. It was garaged all year and was a sunday driver from what the guy told me. You should seriously consider buying a chassis from down here though. Just put your engine, front end, and whatever else on there.

If you have no choice what so ever and they force you to get another car. Go find either a B14 sentra SER or go find an 00-01 sentra SE. Both of these cars have SR20s in them. They are both FWD :(, but they car fun and safe at the same time. With the 00-01 Sentra you only have to pay 4 door insurance instead of 2 door insurance which you parents will like since it sounds like you are still on their's.

Ewwww honda...

Insurance is $550/year. I'm a girl, an honors student, and I have yet to have a ticket or be at fault for an accident...knock on wood. They're not going to let me get something newer than 00, which doesn't make sense, since in the NE they're all going to be way rusty...

Honda= increased gas mileage.

As long as you dont push them and they arent riced out. They will last just as long as you will. We have a 92 honda civic with 320,000 miles on the original motor. Still runs great too.

get a mazda miata; you can still drift those, and they're fairly cheap. Plus you can still turbo or supercharge them.

When someone hit my car back in February, I was looking at a Miata...My mom flipped out and said absolutely not. I'm kind of looking for something I can work on and eventually autocross...
