Ok, we all knew it was going to come so here it is. What engine do you like the best and why.
I didnt put the rb25/26 or the 2jz in cause of the price is way beyond the others.
Personally I like the sr20. Cheap/reliable/ and it makes good power and accepts mods well. It can also be bolted up and plugged in. No cutting or welding. So that is just my opinion. Lets hear everone elses

I'm still in the debating stage. I am really leaning torward the sr20 for most of the reasons that you say. I've also heard from some others that the sr20 just feels right. I know that theres so much potential in both the 2jz's and rb's but for now i think i'm goin with sr20.
Goin this route will be a lot quicker to get the motor in, and a lot less expensive all the way around. Mods won't cost much and i'll have a solid engine that is well supported all over the internet and easy to find mods for.
Down the road I may either swap it out again or just build another 240 with an rb25...
I'm still eager to hear everyone elses views on this tho...

i kno its not a choice but v8 ls seris are awsome motors then i would say a carb'd 5.0 cheap reliable and the aftermarket source for them is crazy and they really dont way that much more than a ka24de but i also love rb motors but thats just me

Why'd we leave the ka out?
Ka-t's can be pretty awesome dollar for dollar against the SR20.
I like the Sr and Ka. Clearences (engine bay) are great and it keeps the car very well balanced.
Reliability on the sr is pretty great (among the standard hg and ceramic turbine wheel failures) i think nissan did an awesome job creating a engine platform that is so easy to throw different applications on (not really their idea, but it worked out so well)
but, i'm still gunna roll with the ka-t.
mmm boy.

i like ka-t's to. i was gonna do that but no i want 5.o or build a NA KA
After I do my SR swap I plan on doing something with my KA, maybe buy a coupe shell and build a kA-T. That sounds fun :).
Anyone have any good examples of a nice powerful, reliable turbo setup on a KA?

Yeah i left out the KA cause i wanted to make this a swap thread. I myself also like the idea of going ka-t. buck for buck and hp for hp they are very close but the sr has more potential IMO. It can run more boost. But i llove the tq monster of the ka. But like i said i wanted this to be a what swap would you do(if you wanna) thread. I think this calls for a ka vs. sr thread

im going wit ha S14 SR, now i no everyone and their mom goes ape shit over a SR these days, well only cuz they r the shit!
CA18DET- too small for my S14
RB20DET- too heavy, could make the SR just as fast easy, and the SR goes right in no problem
KA-T - was going to buy my friends setup that has 220hp and 280 ft/lbs of torque, but decided I would rather have a reliable SR than a built KA that would eventually blow up

rb20's are decent. yes they way more but they make more torque so it makes up for it.
im currently working with full race to see if i can get the r34 6 spd to work in my s13 with the rb26.
if i ever have another 240sx after this one its going to be ka24e-t. its a little more expensive but this guy on ka-t.org is putting down 240whp at 6psi. about the ca18det though, i really like mine except for it doesnt have much torque.

im just having a hard time finding rb26 parts. i may make my own dry sump oil pan and run a dry sump system. i've found rods and pistons, finding valves and cams is proving to be a littl hard.
but i may have it worked out where geoff @ full race is gonna hook me up with a manifold and downpipe and i might be getting a hookup on turbo stuff too :D

lol. i'll mention it to geoff
i think i would go 2jz instead of rb26, a lot less of a headache in finding parts and crap

yea but when youre getting 3 rb26dett full swaps for 600 bucks. you go with whats cheapest. if i can sell all 3 for a good bit i'll build a 2jz from the crank up.. 1400whp anyone?

SR - such a 'me too' motor swap
RB20 - see above
CA18 - this would be my pick of the three. a much better designed motor than the other two choices.

nice. I'd choose the CA18 for ones who are on a budget build. They're not too common and power is decent.

A year or two ago I'd definetely say sr20 over rb20 mainly because of the aftermarket and availability of parts. But now that more rb parts are out there now Its a toss up for me. But I guess I'd be leaning more towards the rb20 especially since thats what powers my s13. lol
