it works but i dont know about using it. all i think of when i see this is restriction, even with the butterfly open. I say dont get it unless u need to quiet down your exhaust extremely. and even so what happens when it gets stuck open or closed? my 2 cents

im making plenty of power.

im not worried about restriction.

i doubt it would get stuck but i was hoping for someone with experience with it.

Andy I wanted this as well for a while but I didn't find anyone who tried it yet. I have the same reasons if not more why I need this as well. I could care less if its STUPID OR NOT (CASEY) but for my own reasons I need/want.

let me know if you find out more dude!

WRX's and EVO's run them. They wouldn't still be around if they sucked or failed often. I say go for it, but put it in the downpipe where it's at least 3".

Also, just don't get a cheap-ass one.

i doubt anyone on here has one or has used one, i say try it but of course don't leave it closed when doing high rpm or high boost. bmw does it, even though i think it's only on n/a applications (as far as i know) and its more for noise restriction than back pressure (even though i figure your not concerned about back pressure). go for it!

Andy, QTP is a good brand.

it says dont close when you are running high boost.

Ive used one. Its just whats called a cutout, domestic guys been using them for decades.

Only real reason to use one is if your exhaust is relatively restrictive, but if you have a 3+inch free exhaust you might not see any real advantages, unless your making some good power.

i just want to know if its will quiet the exhaust without a y pipe.

i do have 3"

Oooooooooh, I looked at it closer, its not a cutout after all.

Actually, that looks pretty stupid if i am understanding correctly. It just goes in-line with the exhaust pipe, not as a secondary vent to the outside.

I would say it probably will quiet the exhaust but it might get stuck form h heat or carbon buildup and it is def some sort of restriction.

I dont like it.

i respect your opinion.

i think i'll take your advice.

maybe i'll just throw a silencer in while i'm daily driving it.

If all you want is sound deadening, a silencer is cheaper, and pretty reliable, thats the way to go.

Andy C
03-29-2009, 01:43 AM
but i cant just open it up when i want to

thats the only thing

I would almost say that with that valve in place, especially with a tuned car, it might run like crap.

Andy C
03-29-2009, 01:47 AM
yeah i'll just keep my 3" and put some of that sound deadening tape around the back of the car.

i have a daily driver anyway

OR get a quieter exhaust with an electric cutout at the downpipe.

what exhaust would u recommend?

im making 300+ hp so i need 3"

Infinite

there are tons of options to quiet down your exhaust without restricting flow
some people run 2 mufflers, one as a resonator, one in the normal spot
burns makes a nice low profile straight through muffler that works and sounds great

Andy C

i'll check it out

thanks will

Ah, I reread your first post. I'd say don't bother with it. I didn't fully read the Apexi link.

Like I said and Slip N Slide, 3" downpipe + electric cutout + quieter exhaust.

Infinite

i'll check it out

thanks will
yup
i can help with finding and fabbing the stuff you need

the problem i've found with most cutouts is overtime the motors fail, they vbreak
butterflies vibrate loose, etc

Andy C
03-29-2009, 04:19 AM

Infinite
03-29-2009, 04:20 AM
however much the parts cost + welding cost
duh

Andy C
03-29-2009, 04:37 AM
well yeah

that was kinda my question. how much is that?

Infinite
03-29-2009, 04:43 AM
well
cost of the muffler, or whatever you choose to do
cost of piping, welding time (hourly)

it all depends on what you want done

Andy C

i want an exhaust that can support 400hp, and is reasonably quiet, and looks good.

and sounds good.

am i asking for too much?

Infinite
03-29-2009, 04:45 AM
no youre not
3 or 3.5" back
2 mufflers
you should be golden

Andy C
03-29-2009, 04:46 AM

Infinite
03-29-2009, 04:47 AM

Andy C

i forgot who i was talking to

never mind. i'll just buy one somewhere. im not spending 300$ on a muffler.

Elizabeth Reed
03-29-2009, 10:37 PM
hm i've never heard of running two mufflers. thats interesting

omgtofu
03-29-2009, 10:57 PM
if this specific one is designed not to be on a secondary pipe to dump with, and is meant to be inside the only exhaust pipe you have to restrict flow, then its pretty fucking retarded and you shouldnt do it.

Elizabeth Reed
03-29-2009, 11:22 PM
hey will what about the aeroturbine mufflers? they sound good. i noticed charles on here has them on his supra

Infinite
03-29-2009, 11:24 PM
they are nice pieces, huge but nice
they seem to quiet it down a bit as well

Elizabeth Reed
03-29-2009, 11:25 PM
yeah im jw becasue i hate loud exhaust and im lookign for something that will keep everything quiet to a certain extent
