NOSSSS!!!!! haha, just kidding, but somewhat serious. I'm in a similar dilemma It's hard to squeeze out power of these type engines without spending some big money (more than 3-4 hundred) but maybe someone can chime in with a pointer or two.

save for sr20 or go for kae-t. sohc ka-ts are badass. Ka24de is nothing to brag about. Stock that is.

agreed wish i had some better advise but seeing as i've bought and sold 2 turbo kits and 4 headers for my car and almost bought 2 engines... just figure out what you want out of you car (not your engine) and then pick the engine that will fit your needs. a SR is always a good choice but turboing a KA is just as easy if not easier. hope i helped

exhaust, intake, headers, thats all you can do at this point. Run higher octane gas, get a tune. Thats about it for your price range, and the headers alone cost that.

Save your money. Even if you put i/h/e it will still be slow.

but 240s arent THAT slow, they are quick enough for me to feel satisfied.

and to make you understeer.
and to make you understeer.
just add 22mm rear sway bar and drive. no more problems.
If you don't have much money, don't put anymore money into an engine you don't really want than you have to. If you get intake and headers on your ka24e, it's still not going to make much power and you're eventually going to want to get rid of that motor when you have more money. So any money besides necessities spent on that motor is going to be a waste.
Spend money on upgrades that you will continue to use, no matter what motor you have in your car. Suspension parts are a good place to start. Even if your car only has 150hp, it will still be a lot of fun to drive with some nice suspension.
I'd rather drive a 240sx with a bunch of suspension upgrades and 150hp than a 240sx that's completely stock with an sr.

if u really want to put money into the single cam just thro a header intake exhaust & an adj. FPR, then u could run 93 octane 3-4 degrees timing advance, maybe 5 & 5-8psi mor of fuel of course u will want a wideband so u dont have detonation which will show leean on the guage, & if u do just retard timing 1 degree at a time & listen for the detonation & until lean condition smooths out or add 2 more psi fuel until lean condition goes away ;)

look at the guy with the itb kat he was going for NA power but he ended up switching to a KA-t with the Itb setup
yow can use itbs off a GSXR 750 or 1000 you will just have to build a plenum to keep your maf because of your budget (no $ for a stand alone fuel setup)
or you could run NAWS

yeah, im thinking im just going to save up for a new engine. my birthday just rolled around and now i have a good bit more money in savings. who knows what i will need. the only thing im gonna miss about my kae is the fact that i could call it a kick ass engine. other than that i cant wait for a newer engine. or i saw that someone had an s14 project car for 900. im thinking about that. should be a fun project.

take off the clutch fan and go to a junk yard and get an electric fan and strainght wire it to the battery with a switch.
you'll gane some hp from that
or go the v-empire route with NOS!

ka24e-t's are actually pretty damn potent if they're done right.
Get on ka-t.org. There's some proof there.
and lol guys, he said cheap power...
Take off the fan clutch, wire up an electric, pull the p/s and a/c (if you dare), intake, exhaust (2.5" max though), performance clutch (if you have the $), lightweight flywheel (or have the stock one lightened, probably cheaper), underdrive/lightweight pulleys (cheap on ebay), and of course, the drifter's special "stage 3 weight reduction" (pull the rear seats, spare tire, spare tire cover, and whatever else you feel you don't need, lol)
You'll be chasing down Corvette's and Supra's in no time!! :lmfao: ;)

define "gain power" ??
here's quick fact:
- the "quickest", "easiest" and "cheapest" way to increase 50hp+ is Nitrous Oxide. Can be costly over time.
- the FASTEST, and most efficient way to maintain fast is suspension mod. Plus tires and brakes. The Takumi style !! :D
So, if you going to speed lest than $300 bucks, brakes and sway bar will be your only option.

Well yeah, with suspension you'll put power down better, but how much do you need for maybe an extra 15-20hp gain? Definitely don't need any crazy brakes. It's like when Honda (and others too) guys get the 'big brake upgrade' but still have a stock motor (airbox and all)...oh well.
I think he just meant quick/easy ways to get a little extra bang for the buck. I know what you're sayin though.
I also heard/read that ground kits help...don't know how much, maybe free up an extra horse or two, but anything helps. I noticed a slightly smoother revving on my dual cam in my old coupe...

I don't like the words "put power down better".
Right suspension mods can help a car acceleration better with quicker weight transfer.
No need crazy brakes ? hmmm...
Deceleration is as important as acceleration.
Better deceleration means - brakes later when enter a corner, and a better/faster weight transfer to the front.

Brakes are for the weak. They are a ploy against us from the government.

I 50% agree with you.
Amatuer use brake the wrong way.
Novise refuse to use brake to slow them down.
Pro use brake to make them go faster.
